We're going back over the rainbow for this Throwback Thursday. Back in 2024 we celebrated THE WIZARD OF OZ with Brandon Davis, host of the Front Row Classics podcast! The moment Dorothy steps out of Kansas and into the Technicolor world of Oz still takes our breath away. Now's a perfect time to listen with the Oz spin-off, Wicked: For Good dropping on the 21st!

You can listen to the full episode by subscribing to our Patreon at the link in bio.

🚨NEW EPISODE🚨Our 4-week Films of Resistance continues with 1964's DR. STRANGELOVE. Stanley Kubrick's satire showcases a slice of American life in the 1960s, that of how normalized the fears of nuclear war had become. Critic Jeff Ewing joins us to talk about why this Cold War comedy hasn't lost an ounce of its power today.

Got a bit of an Old Hollywood birthday sandwich for you today. Wishing a happy belated birthday to Claude Rains and Richard Burton, and a happy early birthday to Grace Kelly!

If I had to give a favorite film from each actor I'm going THE VIPS (1963) for Burton, NOTORIOUS (1945) for Rains, and begrudgingly HIGH SOCIETY (1956).

Give us your favorite films from each actor in the comments!

Watching DR. STRANGELOVE (1964) today is weird because it feels less like a satire and more like a documentary. As evidenced by General Jack D. Ripper's fears about losing essential "fluids" feeling like a news article you'd see this week. We talk about the movie alongside film critic Jeff Ewing in the second of our four week Films of Resistance series.

Coming into the weekend with all the power of a nuclear blast! This month we're doing a four-week series on Films of Resistance and every single episode will be on our main feed. Yes, for the first (and probably the last) time we're doing a weekly show!

If you haven't already, be sure to listen to our episode on BORN YESTERDAY (1950) which kickstarted the series. And you can prep for next week's episode by streaming 1964's DR. STRANGELOVE wherever you get movies. This Kubrick film is gonna leave us a lot of food for thought so you won't want to miss the episode.

Are you a Dr. Strangelove fan? How do you think it looks at resistance? Let us know in the comments.

This month's star on TCM is Rock Hudson, an actor that isn't one of our faves on Ticklish Biz, and yet we enjoy so many of his movies. Tonight you can enjoy one of his best performances in 1956's GIANT. Based on a novel by Edna Ferber (no, it's not in Kristen's book "But Have You Read the Book") this multigenerational story is epic and remarkably progressive for the time.

Be sure to listen to our episode on Giant, with Ferber expert Julie Gilbert, wherever you get your podcasts!

We had to shout out our friend (and secret Ticklish Biz listener....don't tell us she isn't) Sabrina Carpenter to ask the question: Men, what's stopping you from being Bill Holden in Born Yesterday? Special guest Nell Minow joins Kristen and Emily to talk about why Holden's character Paul Verrall is the perfect example of soft masculinity, and how his relationship with Judy Holliday's Billie Dawn remains romantic to this day.

We're throwing it back to last year's Halloween episode on THE SHINING (1980) with author and Pixar director Lee Unkrich as our guest. We dived deep into Stanley Kubrick's world, and we're still cleaning up all the🩸from the elevator.

We have a Halloween bonus episode for everyone over on Patreon. Drop by and listen to our latest installment of Based on a True Podcast, focused on Old Hollywood biopics, as we discuss 1998's GODS AND MONSTERS.
