April Releases on My Immediate TBR List 📝

I know yesterday was pub day, and that there are plenty of amazing books coming out this month. But here are three releases coming out in the next few weeks that I’m excited for and adding to my hopeful stack for Spring!

If We Were A Movie by Zakiya N. Jamal: I’m clearly a sucker for lyrics or song titles as book titles. And yes, I watched the heck out of Hannah Montana back in the day lol

The Summer I Ate The Rich by Maika Moulite and Maritza Moulite - This one recently got on my radar after seeing my bookish bestie, Laura’s () post about attending an amazing event for the book. I’ve also loved this author duo since their debut, so I’m excited for it.

Bibliotherapy in the Bronx by Emely Rumble, LCSW - The reasons are endless! Em is a great bookish friend, fantastic therapist, and fellow Bronxite. To be honest, Bibliotherapy in the Bronx has been on my list for a while and I’m so excited to finally have a copy in my hands soon!

If none of these books were on your radar before, consider this my nudge to add them to your list!

Tell me some new releases you can’t wait to get your hands on!

Q1 Recap pt 1 🏠🎵✍🏾🎞️⚾️💜✨⠀

These past few months have been an…interesting one. But through all the chaos I did manage to add a few new fave reads to my top of the year list! ⠀

Of course, to no ones surprise, Oathbound by Tracy Deonn is batting 1 for 1 at the top of the list. But The Thing About Home by Rhonda McKnight is coming iniclose second. I loved this so much that I plan on picking up Bitter and Sweet soon! Third? Well it’s a tie between Harlem Rhapsody—which I’m still figuring out how I’d like to share all of my thoughts on it, and Reel. ⠀

I also continued a few of my favorite tv series and became obsessed with a few new ones.⠀

In fact, I loved Paradise so much that I’m currently rewatching it. I’m thinking of making it my first Wine and Watch of the year. What do you think? ⠀

Also, should I be messy and share my least faves of Q1 too? 👀🫣

I’m currently reading Flirting Lessons, and I’m really excited to read Happy Land. Especially after seeing and reading a few great reviews for it. ⠀

Are any of these books on your list? If not, what are some new releases you’re excited for this month?

📖 Last: No Ordinary Love by Myah Ariel - really enjoyed and def recommend. ⠀

🎧 Now: Flirting Lessons by Jasmine Guillory - currently listening to on audio and I won’t lie, though I’m happy to be back in Napa at the Noble family winery (Drunk on Love,) I’m not as invested in Avery and Taylor’s story… yet. ⠀

The Favorites by Layne Fargo—I’m also listening to this one on audio, and the full cast and interview style mixed in with the narrative have me hooked. ⠀

📚 Next: All the Men I’ve Loved Again by Christine Pride. Special thanks to for the advanced copy set to be released on July 8, 2025. As well as All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby! ⠀

Is anyone else experiencing a bit of a lull with their reading? Life has been a bit hectic on my end these past few weeks, so reading has taken a back seat. But I’m slowly getting back into my groove.

Confession: I didn’t spend any time with my manuscript in February. ⠀

Simply put, I wasn’t feeling inspired, and I’d hit a writer’s block of sorts. As I was working on an important scene back in January, I’d realized that I needed to flesh out more details in my world-building. Hyperfocusing on that resulted in the creative juices going from a roaring river to a trickling stream. So I stopped. ⠀

That was until about two weeks ago. While rereading Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn, there was a scene that really got me in my writer feels. It was when Bree first arrived at Volition (won’t go into further detail to avoid spoilers). Through this scene, I knew I wanted my main character to have an experience similar to Bree’s. ⠀

From the prose to the grounding feeling of the setting and location as well as the varying emotions Bree experiences, Tracy reignited a spark.⠀

As I continued to read, a scene began to form in my mind and I just had to get it out.⠀

Writing it felt like giving my story new life.It helped create even deeper intentions for a few of my characters. And tapped into elements of the history part of my world-building that I didn’t anticipate. Now I have no idea where this particular scene will go…yet, but that’s future Kim’s problem lol⠀

Bookish Thoughts⠀

Special thanks to for the free book! As well as for the listener copy. ⠀

This book gave serious Abbott Elementary vibes. ⠀

That being said, I didn’t necessarily love this book at the very beginning. In fact I can’t tell you how many times I rolled my eyes at our FMC Brianna Rogers in the first half. But something told me to keep pushing. Might have been the enjoyment I remembered from The Kiss Countdown by the author, around this time last year lol ⠀

Anyway this story takes us on a journey. From middle school libraries to Mars simulations and everything in between. The stakes are high as Brianna with her team, which unfortunately or fortunately includes Roman Major, her secret crush and arch-nemesis Principal Major’s son. Through many obstacles we watch as they both, along with a team of teachers from the school spend two months trying to finish the simulation to win prize money toward renovating the school’s library. ⠀

As I said Brianna irritated me in the beginning. Though some of her concern and paranoia towards Roman was understandable, it did tread along the vein of redundant inner monologues. Roman though may not be the most swoon worthy love interest but he was definitely giving all the chemistry and tension. His feelings for Brianna were quite evident from the start. ⠀

However, for me the real stars of the book were: ⠀

Camile, Brianna’s sister! I adored the conversations between them. Especially in those last few chapters. ⠀

Jordan & Angie, fellow teachers participating in the simulation. I loved Jordan’s enthusiasm for the experiment. Howeverthere was rarely a moment where Angie didn’t at minimum have me chuckling or full on cackling! I’m secretly hoping we get her story next. ⠀

It was good to see Vincent & Amerie (MC’s from The Kiss Countdown) in quick glimpses as well.⠀

By the end, I went from slight indifference to full on enjoyment. I especially likedhow everything came full circle at the end. Overall, this is a cute romance. ⠀

What book, show, or movie started off rocky but paid of by the end?

Happy New Release Tuesday Bookwyrms! ⠀

And happy pub day to Blood Beneath the Snow by Alexandra Kennigton. Special thanks to for the free book! ⠀

Check out the synopsis below ⠀

A heart-pounding romantasy following a rebellious princess who must compete to the death against her siblings for the crown to ensure justice, while fighting her feelings for her country’s most powerful enemy by debut author Alexandra Kennington⠀

Revna is no stranger to struggle. As the only member of the royal family without a magical ability, she is seen as an embarrassing mistake by her kingdom and a blight on her bloodline. Luckily, Revna has found family in other outcasts in her kingdom. But when her two closest friends’ lives are put in danger, she is determined to save them by any means necessary, no matter the cost. The Bloodshed Trials—a competition where the last sibling in the royal family standing takes the throne—might just be the ultimate price.⠀

Revna turns down her arranged marriage and commits to competing for the throne only to be kidnapped by the mysterious and terrifyingly powerful Hellbringer, the general of her country’s greatest enemy. He has the ability to rend souls with the flick of his wrist and is every inch as intimidating as the war stories say he is. But Revna wonders if there may be some humanity left in him—especially when he reveals there are other parties who want her on the throne for their own secret reasons.

I started Scorched Earth: Poems by Tiana Clark over the weekend in between my reading sprints for Oathbound and oof Clark’s prose are landing quick slices to all of my feelings. Special thanks to for the advanced copy! Scorched Earth was one of the many amazing books released last week Tuesday! ⠀

I feel like I say this every time I share or post a poetry collection but if you could have spoken to the somewhat snob version of Kim in her early twenties, she would tell you,⠀
that the genre was her “least favorite” 🙄 ⠀

Well if these last few years have taught be anything it’s that I’m definitely eating those words now lol ⠀

What’s a genre you’ve tried and loved in the last few years? Was it one that you didn’t think you’d like or love in a million years?

Is it just me or did it feel like we woke up on Wednesday, blinked, and then suddenly it was Friday? Probably just me right? 😅⠀

⚔️ Reading: Oathbound by Tracy Deonn has practically taken over my life. However, I’ve decided to take my time reading it because I just know Deonn plans on destroying me, and I need time to recuperate in between. ⠀

I’ve also finished and enjoyed The Love Simulation by Etta Easton and started The Queen’s Spade by Sarah Raughley, yesterday. Oh, and I’m rereading So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole.⠀

🥦 Eating: I mostly made quick meals this week. Including yesterday’s ”Beef & Broccoli for dinner. Which I tossed in a wok and quickly whipped it up courtesy of Costco frozen section lol ⠀

Playing: Oh Paradise, how I’m not ready for you to end. I binge-watched episodes 5-7 last weekend and have yet to watch episode 8. But I plan to tonight!⠀

👸🏾Obsessing: Aren’t the Legendborn stickers from stunning?!! Though I love all of them, I’m partial to the “Don’t make it about the loss. Make it about the love.” sticker. Well that and “You are my king now, cariad.” ⠀

🧋Recommending: Asha Boba Milk Tea! My younger cousin is the reason this brand is in my life now. But I’ve enjoyed the different flavors. My favorite being Thai Tea! ⠀

🧖🏾‍♀️Treating: My hair is in desperate need of some TLC so I will be having an extra long wash day tomorrow filled with deep conditioning treatments and such! ⠀

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

This year is shaping up to be one for the rereads! ⠀

This Ends in Embers by Kamilah Cole, the second book in the Divine Traitors duology, is one of the books on my hopeful stack for this season. So I’ve recently started my reread of So Let Them Burn during my lunch break audio walks. Here’s the thing, I had every intention of just going straight into TEIE. But when I got through that first chapter and realized I had damn near no clue what was happening, I immediately pulled up my SLTB audiobook lol ⠀

I’ve realized that, especially for fantasy reads, I too often forget small or minor details if too much time has passed. So much so that a cursory glance over my review no longer suffices. Is this what getting old feels like? Lol ⠀

Speaking of, I’m intrigued to see if my experience/journey changes with this reread. ⠀

Do you plan on rereading any books this month? Also, how do you feel about book cover changes? Do we love them, dislike them, depends on the book?

Happy Oathbound Day!! ❤️⚔️💙⚔️💜⠀

Sharing my throwback photo from the cover reveal last year until my copy hits my doorstep 😆⠀

I’m only one chapter in on audio and I’m just … yeah lol ⠀

Prepared to be sick of me (no spoilers) & my tumbler for the next few weeks!

Bookish Ramble 📚💬⠀

I’d mentioned in my February Wrap Up that The Thing About Home by Rhonda McKnight felt like the coziest blanket while reading and it felt like a cozy read. But in all actuality I don’t think I could classify it as such.⠀

This story is what I’d consider multigenerational though not in the traditional sense or useof the term. ⠀

We follow our MC Casey Black, an influencer who after a scandal finds herself in Low Country, specifically Georgetown, South Carolina to connect with her father’s family. Through her great grandmother’s journals as well as discussions with her grandmother and other family members, Casey learns of her legacy as well as some of the difficulties of the past. ⠀

It was amazing to watch Casey’s renaissance of sort. I learned so much about the history of Low Country that I hadn’t truly known prior. I also immediately related to Casey (as well as a few of the other characters) and everytime I’d listen to the audiobook it felt like I was catching up with an old friend. ⠀

But there’s a lot of hurt, pain, and deep wounds with scar tissue that hadn’t healed yet, surrounding the Black family. There’s also community and love so deep and wide that my heart was overflowing. ⠀

Nigel, our love interest was swoon worthy but it was his slow and easy temperament that really won me over. I liked that he was fiercely protective of those he loved and cared for and that he was patient, kind, and fun. ⠀

I didn’t anticipate just how much these characters had really grown on me. To the point where their pain became my own. By the end I was full blown sobbing within the last few chapters.⠀

Overall, I recommend this to anyone who loves a good contemporary read mixed with historical fiction and a dash of romance.⠀

Special thanks to for the listener copy!
