AWA
In 2011, Loïc Goepfert founded Alibi Catamarans, a rather unconventional boatyard driven by a desire to push boundaries: lightness, performance, radical thinking. Far from the beaten path.
There, we imagined fast, agile boats often ahead of their time, though history had other plans. The adventure came to an end in 2017. Design, sales, construction... it was a lot for just a handful of people.
Loïc then went on to design racing yachts alongside his lifelong friend Guillaume Verdier, contributing to projects that reached the highest levels of the sport: 11th Hour, Gitana, Macif... quite a few wins! A journey that still runs alongside AWA today.
As for me, Julien, I returned to product design, working on numerous projects and creating hundreds of products at Decathlon. Eventually becoming design lead for their new kite and wing foil brand. Sometimes joining Loïc and Guillaume in offshore racing.
Two different paths, but the same energy. And we never really stopped collaborating, a sketched idea here, a prototype to test there, something we just had to explore purely out of passion.
In 2023, we decided to give it a framework. Not a company, not a brand, just a shared platform for experimentation.
Apparent Wind Association, Apparent Wind Architecture, Apparent Wind Activities, Apparent Wind Apparatus... It will likely take many forms.
The idea: to create craft that harness apparent wind to its fullest — that unique wind speed felt by a moving vessel which, when mastered, allows you to go faster than the wind itself. A lifelong obsession.
Since then, we've been designing foilers, wings, and cutting edge boardsport gear where. Any objects built to go fast, sometimes to fly. A shared obsession with capturing every breath of wind across the ocean.
And always, the desire to share on the water what’s been driving us from the very beginning. Our creations will often be infused with new technologies, giving owner-helmsmen even more control and pleasure at sea.
We can't wait to share all these new designs, along with the upcoming offshore racing boats we’re developing with Guillaume, right here on this new page and on Instagram.
Perhaps this will foster conversations, meaningful exchanges, and wonderful encounters.
