itar Competition is the most prestigious classical guitar competition in the world. will be awarded, representing the largest prize purse of any classical guitar competition worldwide. The first Parkening International Guitar Competition was held at Pepperdine University in 2006. With generous grants from Howard and Roberta Ahmanson, the Parkening International Guitar Competition is held every three years. The Parkening International Guitar Competition will be held from May 30-June 2, 2012. Eligible classical guitarists ages 18-30 (born on or after May 29, 1982) are invited to apply. The Parkening Young Guitarists Competition will be held on May 29 and May 30, 2012. It helps to identify outstanding young guitarists (17 years and younger) and encourages them to continue their performance careers and study.

Pepperdine University has invited eight classical guitarists from around the world to participate in a master class with Distinguished Professor of Music and classical guitar virtuoso Christopher Parkening. Activities will take place at Pepperdine University's newest international campus, the Château d'Hauteville, in Switzerland.

Participants will engage in two days of master class and conversation on May 15 and 16, culminating in a performance and reception for the community on May 17.
