Step-by-Step Guide: Learning the
1. Start with the
Focus on learning one elbow roll before moving on to doubles or multiples.
Get comfortable with the motion and timing of catching and releasing.
2. Engage Your Whole Body
This trick isn’t just about your arms, it uses your feet, hands, shoulders, and core.
Keep your posture balanced and relaxed so the baton flows smoothly.
3. Perfect the Single Roll
Don’t rush into double or multiple elbow rolls.
A common mistake is “cheating” by forcing a double elbow before fully mastering one.
Instead, practice the single roll until it feels natural and consistent.
4. Add Control & Consistency
Work on making every roll look the same each time.
Aim for smooth transitions without jerky movements.
5. Practice, Practice,
Repeat until you can perform the roll comfortably and confidently.
Consistency is the foundation for moving on to more advanced elbow rolls.
6. Seek Feedback
If something feels off, record yourself or ask for feedback.
Tag a coach, mentor, or twirling friend in a video so they can help correct your form.
✅ Once you can do this smoothly, you’ll be ready to progress into double and multiple elbow rolls with confidence.
This trick is one of my favorite tricks to do. It is the beginning to multiple elbow rolls. It is crucial to understand the basics of picking up an elbow roll if you want to continue into multiple elbows. This trick involves your entire body: from your feet to your hands to your shoulders.
It’s easy to cheat a double elbow, but you will never move onto multiple elbows until you perfect this one, so keep practicing until you get it down.
