The Philippines activated key military locations under its Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) with the United States to bolster humanitarian aid efforts. This was in direct response to the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon, which affected more than 1.2 million people.

General Romeo Brawner Jr. of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said EDCA sites were activated as forward operating hubs for humanitarian aid. Military assets from the U.S. government can be accommodated in these sites to be transported to typhoon-hit areas. There are nine EDCA locations across the Philippines.

“The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with our Filipino allies, especially in responding to disasters,” U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson said. “We are grateful to the combined relief and rescue teams who have been working tirelessly on the ground to deliver emergency assistance to affected residents.”

This collaboration leverages strategic infrastructure and military assets from both countries to serve and protect Filipino communities in need.

Quad countries have a plan to reduce dependence on China’s rare-earth exports, which are vital for technology and defense.

Australia, India, Japan and the United States introduced the Quad Critical Minerals Initiative to address China's control over essential materials. Their joint declaration committed "to uphold a region free from coercion" and oppose "any unilateral actions that seek to change the status quo by force or coercion.”

“Food Delivery: Fresh from the West Philippine Sea” premiered in Manila on July 27. It documents fishermen whose families and livelihoods depend on the sea, but who are blocked by China’s vessels from Scarborough Shoal.

The film also highlights the tireless efforts of Philippine military and law enforcement personnel to secure territorial waters, and deliver vital aid and supplies to remote island outposts amid harassment from China.

"Of course, no wonder, there were people who were trying to make sure that this film would not be seen in the Philippines or anywhere else in the world because the truth is so powerful,” journalist Christian Esguerra said after the premiere.

The multinational Talisman Sabre military exercise expanded to Papua New Guinea (PNG) in August. Australian, United States and PNG forces faced rugged terrain from Wewak to Lae, where a closing ceremony was held August 4. It is the first time the exercise was held outside Australia.

The joint U.S. and Australian military exercise Talisman Sabre extended across 500 km (300 miles) of remote northern coast in Papua New Guinea this week, Australian officials said, the first time the war games have been taken to another country.

Exercise Keris Strike 25 in Malaysia brought together over 2,700 troops from Malaysia, the United States and Australia. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the trilateral exercise with the Australian Defence Force joining as a full participant for only the second time.

These multinational forces came together to exchange survival knowledge, fieldcraft skills, and cultural practices vital to operating in austere environments. Here, Malaysian Army soldiers demonstrate traditional and practical jungle survival techniques passed down through generations. From finding edible plants to building small animal traps, from fire-starting to shelter-building, the immersive experience strengthened interoperability and built friendships among the participating nations.
