The trouble with just upping a support payment for those renting on low incomes is that this is a two sided problem. If the market conditions allow it, then landlords will see more money coming in and jack the rent again.

Labor are not attacking both sides of the problem, and so upping a support payment will simply be a short matter of time before that also ends up in a landlord's hands. They may as well call it a landlord support payment.

Labor need to form a public developer and go on a big public housing build. There is no way around it if you truly want to address this housing crisis.

Right wingers love the GST as taxation because it's a regressive tax. The less money you make, the higher the percentage of your income will be taken by GST. In other words, they are trying to take taxes off themselves - the rich - the they want to place those taxes onto those who can least afford it.

In a progressive taxation system, the more that you make, the higher the percentage of your income you will pay. Which means the richest pay more tax - as they should. They have benefited the most from everything taxation pays for.

This is frankly sociopathic, but I expect nothing less from these right wing scoundrels.

What we have here are two sides, neither of which have any solutions to our big problems like a housing crisis, screaming at each other that the other side has no solutions.

They have no solutions because they won't tell the people with this - $ - the word "no." The actual solution to our housing crisis is in our own past, post WW2. But these days it would have these guys crying mUh cOmMuniSM. Yeh, Menzies was a communist... Riiiiiggghhhtt...

The greed of American oligarchs and the sheer idiocy of its citizenry is sending the U.S. ass backwards, and if it continues on this trajectory, the day is coming when they are finished as the global superpower. No empire or global superpower can last with such an inept and corrupt clown show running it, and with citizens so incredibly stupid they repeatedly choose the worst possible leadership. Their luck is running out. China gets closer to them every year, and the day they overtake the U.S. is not all that far ahead. This is just objective reality. Whether you would prefer China or the U.S. as the top global superpower is not a part of this statement.

This is either completely insincere or delusional, or perhaps even both. He only seems to be talking about waving the chainsaw around, and that is the least of what he should be sorry about.

He's largely responsible for the setup of concentration camps, let alone sending random immigrants to foreign prisons for life. He's largely responsible for millions of poor people being kicked off their healthcare who will be left to die if they get sick, and I'm just getting warmed up.
