My new video showing footage of humpback whales.

In the winter months this southern population of whales migrates north to Tonga, where they give birth to calves and mate.

The early shots in the video are young male humpback whales. Later we see a mother and her young calf.

Apologies to any divers who have had to wait on updates from manta submissions in Thailand and Myanmar! We’ve been behind in matching for the very best reason: Nick Hope from Bubble Vision combed through his many years of professional video and submitted all the manta IDs he found!

Nick sent in all his manta sightings from 2002 to 2016. All these new manta encounters led to some really interesting matches, and many new IDs. We will be sharing some interesting new resights from Thailand soon.

Huge thank you to Nick for taking the time out of your busy schedule and going through your archives! We really appreciate all the professional photographers and videographers who share their work in the name of science. If you are a professional underwater photographer or videographer we would really appreciate you sharing photos. Every image you submit is completely rights protected, and can make a huge difference in manta conservation efforts.

Dita Cahyani, and assigned the name Sueviota bryozophila.
