🌊 Honoring a Lifesaving Legacy: Julian Stanley Wise 🚑

Today, we remember Julian Stanley Wise, the visionary behind the first volunteer rescue squad in the United States and a true pioneer in emergency medical services.

In 1909, at just 9 years old, Wise witnessed two men drown in the Roanoke River because there was no one trained or equipped to save them. That moment stayed with him for life.

Years later, in 1928, he turned tragedy into action by founding the Roanoke Life Saving and First Aid Crew in Virginia — what would become the first volunteer rescue squad in the nation. His work laid the foundation for modern EMS systems, emphasizing training, teamwork, and community service.

Today we honor John Ellison, Paramedic and Firefighter with Williamston EMS for 20 years. Born February 3, 1964 and passing January 14, 2024.

"John served Anderson County as a volunteer medic at both Belton and Williamston EMS. He was a firefighter, corrections officer, and rescue tech. He served as a training officer at Williamston EMS. He was a loved father, husband and son." ~ Johnny Johnson
