Learning how to fly fish was something I had long wanted to do. So when invited me out for day last year to show me the ropes, I jumped at the chance!

He spent the day showing me how to cast, proper form, and a few other tips and tricks to get my line out there in different conditions.

It took me a bit to start grasping this new-to-me way of fishing, but Dan was patient and awesome. I had a lot of fun learning from him. While I'm not planning on giving up my conventional gear any time soon, I keep my fly rod handy and practice whenever the opportunity pops up!

I really enjoy fly casting. How it makes me slow down and do things much more deliberately than I usually do with my conventional equipment. For me, and large part of why I love fishing is the connection to and being in nature, and fly fishing kind of bumps that connection up a notch or two.

Thanks, Dan, I hope we can get together again this summer so I can show you how much (or maybe how little 🤣) I've improved!

WALLEYE!

If you've been hanging around with me for any period of time, you know i have a love/hate relationship with these fish. I love to target them, and I hate that I suck at it. This is the first walleye I've personally caught since last fall. It's one of the handful I've EVER caught open water without trolling for them.

I had an opportunity to duck out for an afternoon of fishing and decided to take the to the Bay of Quinte. It was windy, i made a long-ish run that didn't pay off. I spent a bunch of time trolling, casting, jigging, and even tried mucking around where ALL the other boats in the area were fishing (although i didn't stay long, i hate fishing around tons of other boats).

After I had decided to call it quits for the day after catching only a red eared sunfish, i stopped at one more spot on the way home and chucked out a Drip Teeze in Charwhite on a drop shot and drifted with the wind.

One tap then, BAM, this beauty little 16 incher throttled it! I was sure it was a hammer handle Pike at first, based on how fast it ran, but sure enough as I got it to the surface I saw those big beautiful eyes and my Drip Teeze pinned in the roof of its mouth.

It wasn't a monster. He didn't put up the fight of a lifetime. But I needed this fish for a lot of reasons, and he made me a very happy angler. I took a couple of pictures, measured him, and let him go.

It always amazes me how one catch can make a whole day of otherwise fruitless effort worth it.

It also felt really good to catch a fish worth sharing on my first trip out rocking a custom jersey my friend Alan, from made for me!

I love fishing

Lets goooooooo!!!

It's that time again, and I'm a little late to the party! We only have until the end of January 19th to get our votes in, which just happens to also be my birthday!

Head over to the Community Votes Kingston 2024 site and vote for Limestone Lures in the Fishing Supplies category! It only takes a moment and it means the world to me!

Last year we made to Platinum Status, lets see if we can hit that benchmark again! It would be one of the best birthday presents!

It's been a minute since I had my Coosa FD on the water.

Back in July I hurt my shoulder in the dumbest way doing my fitness test at work. The worst part is, the fitness test isn't hard. And the part of the test i was doing was something I've done countless times over my last (almost) 12 years in the Army. Still not sure what happened, but the resulting injury made it nearly impossible for me to lift my kayak and maneuver it the way I needed to get it from my garage to the water.

So after a summer of no kayak fishing, I'm back at it for the fall/winter season!

I took the opportunity to explore a new back lake close to home in search of walleye and smallies. If you've been following me for a while, you know that walleye are a species that, for the most part, elude me. After a few hours of piddling around in 35+ km/h sustained winds and intermittent rain, i finally hooked into my first one of 2024! And on the next cast, I hooked a nice smallmouth bass to boot!

It felt amazing to finally be back out in my beloved kayak AND to actually catch a Walleye when I was specifically targeting them (almost never happens for me) and I look forward to more fishing in this unseasonably warm Fall!

BTW: Yes, these are all pictures of the same two fish, stills nabbed from my HERO10

I had probably the best evening of bass fishing I'd had in years earlier this week.

I was having just the worst day. Awful time at work, mental health was in the dumps. Later in the afternoon my wife told me to take the boat and go fishing.

So that's what I did. And it helped me tremendously. Not just because the bite was on, but because the act of going fishing was enough to take my mind off all the anxieties I was dealing with. Loading up my boat with (too much) gear, hooking up the Scrappie Mobile to the trailer, driving to the ramp, dumping the boat in the water, driving the boat to different spots taking in the gloomy, yet serene, overcast sky, even messing with camera gear to try and film everything.

I ended up fishing well into the dark, which is something I don't usually do, but the bass kept biting, so I kept fishing.

It was just the distraction I needed to clear my mind for a while..

Canada's very own Dinosaur Park and reptile sanctuary!

Isabelle and I took a road trip to just outside Peterborough today and what a cool place to visit it was!

From all manners of snakes, lizards and turtles, to the Tyrant King of the Lizards themselves! (T-rex) we had a blast and it was well worth a short road trip from

The Drive Through Dinosaur track was a really cool experience! I have to admit that I played the Jurrasic Park theme song the whole ride, and if you ever go there, you should too! It made it so much more nostalgic 🤣🤣

Canada's Dinosaur Park is a not-for-profit organization that houses tons of rescued and surrendered reptiles. All of the profits go directly to caring for the live animals (of which there are lots)

They even have a mini stone henge exhibit and mini golf!

I'd call day 4 of Daddy Camp a responding success!
