3⃣4⃣ years ago, the independence of Latvia 🇱🇻 was restored de facto. The law “On the Statehood of the Republic of Latvia” clearly affirmed that people of Latvia desire to belong to Europe and to uphold democratic values.

📃 Following this historic decision, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs acted without delay to secure the widest possible international attention and tried to accelerate both the recognition of the restored state and the establishment of diplomatic relations.

✒ The very next day – on 22 August 1991 – the Republic of Iceland confirmed its recognition of Latvia’s restored independence. By the end of 1991, Latvia’s restored independence and statehood had been recognised already by 9⃣3️⃣ countries.

Our state, as a fully-fledged subject of the international law, returned to the global arena 🤝

Šis karogs izdzīvoja! ❤️🇱🇻

Latvijas Nacionālās operas namā šovasar notiekošo remontdarbu laikā atrastas unikālas vēsturiskas liecības, tai skaitā valsts karogs, kas, iespējams, paslēpts Otrā pasaules kara laikā.

Ņemot vērā vietu, kurā šis karogs tika atrasts, nav izslēgts, ka tas ticis noslēpts 1944. gada 2. septembra vakarā, apjaušot, ka draud kārtējā varas maiņa, un zinot, ka operas nams, tāpat kā citi teātri Latvijā, tiek slēgts pēc ģenerālkomisāra rīkojuma.
