EVERYTHING YOU ARE
Kerry Anne King
Women’s Literature

Ophelia McPhee inherited her grandfather’s luthier business at the age of 18, handed down through several generations. With it came the unique task of keeping track of some very special instruments that musicians signed an oath to always play.

After a tragic accident leaves famous cellist Bradley Healey unable to play his cello, purchased from Ophelia’s grandfather at the age of 10, his life falls apart. Estranged from his wife and two children, he finds solace in alcohol, basically living in a stupor, in a life without music. Eleven years later, tragedy strikes again; and now his 17 year old daughter, Allie, needs him. Feeling inadequate, he moves back to the family home, and attempts to re-build his relationship with his hostile daughter. Ophelia believes if Bradley can play again, the curse will be lifted ... and she attempts to convince Bradley that he must try to play.

This story delves into the wonderful magic of music, the special relationship between a musician and their instrument, something non-musicians (like Bradley’s ex-wife) may not comprehend, and the complex psychology behind PTSD. A very interesting and original storyline! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.

Last week I sat down with artist and author Karen Kinney to talk about some of the concepts in her book, The Reluctant Artist. We talked about what to do when you you're not feeling your creative mojo, permission to take breaks, and even the complicated questions that arise at the intersection of art and commerce.

Very favorable review of DEAD BEFORE DYING by Kerry Schafer of the first book in her newest series. Pick up a copy to see if you agree.

🎧 DEAD BEFORE DYING 📖
Kerry Schafer Books, author
Teri Clark Linden, narrator
Suspense/ Paranormal Thriller
268 Pages
7 hours 46 minutes 🎧 📖

After being injured on the job Maureen Keslyn checks herself into the Shadow Valley Manor to recuperate, which is perfect since it is also the location of her next assignment. With residents and staff members dying at an unnatural rate, Maureen is sent to find and eradicate the threat taking so many lives. Soon the deaths start getting closer and closer to Maureen herself, but nothing could prepare her for who, or better yet what, is behind the killings.

If Alistair Cross and Zoe Sharp sat down to write a murder mystery, it could well be this book. Schafer packs so much action and lore into so few pages. When the constant twists and turns of the plot and vivid and snarky characters combine, it makes this book quite the page turner. I highly recommend this book, and really look forward to future installments in this series.

THE THIRD TO DIE
Allison Brennan
Crime Fiction / Thriller
464 Pages
Release: February 4, 2020

LAPD undercover cop, Detective Kara Quinn, on forced leave and visiting her grandma in Liberty Lake, WA, discovers the co**se of a young nurse. The patterns of the slashes suggest controlled rage and link to a serial killer triggering investigation by the FBI. Agent ‘Matt’ Mathias Costa heads the new Mobile Response Team assigned to identify and capture the Triple Killer. Short-staffed, they recruit Kara Quinn to assist. This killer has left no evidence, or has he? The profiler makes a few connections that Everything’s on the line and any slip-up might mean the death of more, including one of their own.

Allison Brennan created a cast of multidimensional characters that you’ll either really love or truly despise, and do it deeply either way. The essence of Evil feels like it may may win making you jump at noises, then pushing on to see what’s next. The suspense is intense and the danger feels real. This intense read will have you riveted to the page trying to help the team catch the killer. This twisty thriller is one you don’t want to miss; it’s terrifyingly brilliant, and I highly recommend both this new series and this author.

New York Times bestselling author Virginia Kantra has had a lifelong love affair with the book Little Women. Her novel Meg and Jo is a revisioning of these beloved characters in a modern world. Listen in as we talk about creative courage and the ways real life fueled and informed her work.

"Kantra blends just enough of Alcott's story of four close-knit sisters and their myriad tribulations with clever and timely new elements... The imaginative storytelling and sparkling prose make this a winner."--Publishers Weekly, STARRED review

Kerry Anne King

As a little girl in Coleville, WA, Maisey was punished for snooping in her mom's closet and for blaming her 'imaginary friend' for egging her on. She was forced into counseling to erase this friend from her mind. Although a brilliant student, she is always on the fey side of common sense.

She has a 12 year old daughter, Elle, but never married the father, a prominent attorney. She’s living in Kansas City when she gets a call from the Colville Police that both her mom and dad are in the hospital and that her dad is the suspect.

What unfurls is a beath-catching story of long term abuse and how the wrong coping mechanisms can forever damage entire families for generations; how love can change the final outcomes. This is a well-written, thoughtful must-read about processes that keep people chained to that behavior but still hope that change CAN take place. Highly recommend.
