Just collected another bucket of guinea eggs straight off the coop floor to add to the incubator. We have got 10 keets hatched, 20 more in the incubator, and plenty more on the way.

Next project is giving their coop a makeover with some natural roosts and hiding spots to see if we can get them to stop dropping eggs everywhere.

Small bird, BIG sound
Got 10 baby guinea keets in the brooder and another batch in the incubator due around August 11th. Candled them today—15 out of 18 are looking great!
Keep an eye out if you're looking for some keets soon, I'll have plenty for sale soon

It’s been a while since we’ve hatched ducklings on the homestead, and honestly I completely forgot how cute they are!
We’ve got a couple hatched out so far, a few broodys still sitting, and hopefully a lot more on the way soon. Finger crossed!

Swapping out a dead tree for a new Anjou pear. The top portion of the old tree died off, though it managed to pollinate my Bartlett trees enough to get a few pears this season.

Got the new tree set in the hole with some bone meal, made sure to keep the graft union above the soil level this time, and staked it up with a T-post so it doesn't flop around. I will keep it well watered and see how it does.

Was out raking hay when one of the bars popped off the bearing on the hay rake. The nut was completely seized up, so instead of fighting it, I bought a replacement assembly for about $36 and used the reciprocating saw to cut the old one loose.

Once the old piece was off, I transferred over the washer and clip, lined up the new bolt and bearing into the tine bar, and torqued it down.

Love working on this vintage equipment. The parts are usually cheap, easy to swap out, and built to last another lifetime.

I stopped cutting my hair when we started building and renovating the house, telling myself I would get a haircut once we finished. We wrapped up about a year ago now.

The beard has been growing for four or five years, and my daughter probably doesn't even remember me without it. Planning to chop off about half the beard, but I am stuck on what to do with the hair. I have kind of grown to like it, but it gets in the way whenever I need to dress up or do anything nice.

If you go back to my early videos, both my hair and beard were pretty short. Drop some suggestions or photos below on what style I should go with. If I see something I like, I will go get it done.

Nights are starting to cool off here late in July, and the above ground pool water dipped down to 77. The wood-fired heater is running and putting out 102 degree water through the new diverter setup, and I hooked up the old propane heater to speed things along. It's returning water around 92 to 94 degrees. Clear blue skies today, so shouldn't take long to push it past 80. We'll see where the temperature lands by the end of the day.

Was wondering why egg production dropped over the last week. Thought it was just all the broody hens sitting in the nesting boxes, but turned out to be a structural issue.

The end piece on one of the upper boxes gave way, and every egg laid in that spot was rolling straight off the back and smashing on the floor behind the waterer. Ended up with a pretty nasty pile of rotten eggs back there.

Time to fix the box and figure out a plan to break these broody Ayam Cemanis and mixes.

Fresh batch of guinea keets hatching today! Had one little guy stuck in his shell so I gave him a hand, usually don't like to intervene but it made all the difference for him.

Sitting at 8 in the brooder, 2 more coming along in the incubator. 10 out of 14 is a pretty solid run. They’ll be hanging out in the garage brooder for the next few weeks until they’re ready to head out to the coop setup.
