MOORING OPERATION IS VERY DANGEROUS | MARINOPH ✅
Mooring operations are considered highly dangerous onboard ships due to several factors that can pose serious risks to the safety of the crew and the vessel. Here are some of the main reasons why these operations are fraught with hazards:

1. High Tension Forces: Mooring lines, especially those made of synthetic materials, are under extreme tension and can withstand significant forces due to the ship's weight and movement caused by tides, currents, and wind. If a line snaps under tension, it can whip back with tremendous force, potentially causing fatal injuries to anyone in its path.

2.Snapback Zones: The areas known as snapback zones are extremely hazardous. If a mooring line breaks, it will recoil at high speed towards its original position. Crew members standing in or passing through these zones are at risk of being struck by the recoiling line.

3. Complexity and Coordination: Mooring operations involve the coordination of multiple crew members and parts of the ship. Miscommunication or errors in judgment during these operations can lead to accidents. Proper timing and coordination are crucial to safely securing the vessel.

4. Weather Conditions: Adverse weather conditions, such as high winds, rough seas, and poor visibility, can complicate mooring operations significantly. These conditions can make it difficult to control the ship and the mooring lines, increasing the risk of accidents.

5. Equipment Failure: Faulty or poorly maintained mooring equipment, such as winches, ropes, and bollards, can fail during operation. Regular inspection and maintenance are necessary to ensure the integrity of these critical components.

6. Physical Strain: The physical nature of mooring operations can lead to injuries. Crew members are often required to handle heavy ropes and operate in awkward positions, which can lead to muscle strains, slips, and falls.

7. Environmental Impact: Mooring near other vessels or structures requires precision to avoid collisions or allisions, which can cause significant damage to both the ship and the infrastructure.

Due to these dangers, it's imperative that all safety protocols are rigorously followed, crew members are properly trained, and the equipment is regularly inspected and maintained. This helps minimize the risk of accidents during mooring operations.

Today, we mark the 𝟭𝟮𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆 of the man whose name our institution proudly carries. A true gentleman, his legacy lives on in making maritime education attainable and noble.

Capt. Lacson's legacy to change the life of the poor, give them the chance to improve their lives and make them develop their potentials has borne sweet fruits. Many have become masters, chief engineers, officers, ratings, restaurateurs, businessmen, public and private employees and more. In fact, Iloilo is not recognized as the Seafarer's Capital of the Philippines for nothing.

𝑾𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒆 𝑶𝑼𝑹 𝑭𝑶𝑼𝑵𝑫𝑬𝑹, 𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑻𝑨𝑰𝑵 𝑱𝑼𝑨𝑵 𝑩𝑨𝑼𝑻𝑰𝑺𝑻𝑨 (𝑱𝑶𝑯𝑵 𝑩) 𝑳𝑨𝑪𝑺𝑶𝑵. The journey continues with Capt. Lacson's values living in each of the Lacsonian's hearts.
