Read at face value, this book can be taken as a life story. However, the underlying aim is to explore, through the guise of a life story, what kind of country Ethiopia was when the author was born, the life of its people, the interconnectedness of its society, its cultures, its administration, and particularly what the plan to modernize the country, designed by Emperor Haile Selassie, looked like, what results it brought after time passed, the beginning and course of the Ethiopian Revolution, then in what condition our country is today, what can be said about its future prospects, and whether the situation that awaits us is something we can control or an invincible force of history that moves on its own. The main focus, therefore, is not on my life but on Ethiopia.

በቁሙ ሲነበብ ይህ መጽሐፍ እንደ ሕይወት ታሪክ የሚወሰድ ነው። ከበስተጀርባ ያለው ዓላማ ግን ደራሲው ሲወለድ ኢትዮጵያ ምን ዓይነት አገር እንደነበረች፣ የሕዝቧ ኑሮ፣ የሕብረተሰቧ ትስስር፣ ባሕሎቿ፣ አስተዳደሯ፣ በተለየ ዐፄ ኃይለ ሥላሴ የቀየሱት አገሪቱን የማሠልጠን ውጥን ምን ይመስል እንደነበር፣ ውሎ ካደረ ወዲያስ ምን ውጤት እንዳስከተለ፣ የኢትዮጵያ አብዮት አነሳስ እና አካሄድ፣ ከዚያም ዛሬ አገራችን በምን ሁኔታ ላይ እንደምትገኝ፣ ስለወደፊት ዕድሏስ ምን ማለት እንደሚቻል፣ የሚጠብቀን ሁኔታስ ልንቆጣጠረው የምንችለው ነው ወይስ የማይበገር በራሱ የሚሄድ ኃይለ ታሪክ ነው? እነዚህን ሁሉ ነው በሕይወት ታሪክ ሰበብ ለመቃኘት የሞከርሁት። ዋናው ትኩረት በኔ ሕይወት ላይ ሳይሆን በኢትዮጵያ ላይ ነው ማለት ነው።

አቶ ተካልኝ ገዳሙ እንደ አውሮፓውያን ዘመን አቆጣጠር በሐምሌ 1959 ዓም ኒው ዮርክ በሚገኘው በተባበሩት መንግሥታት ድርጅት ዋና ጽሕፈት ቤት በኢንዲስቱሪ ልማት መምሪያ ውስጥ ተቀጥረው ሁለት ዓመት ያህል ከሰሩ ወዲያ ወደ አዲስ አበባው ቅርንጫፍ መሥሪያ ቤት ተዛውረው በተለያዩ እርከኖች ስምንት ዓመት ያገለገሉ ኤኮኖሚስት ናቸው። በኋላ ደግሞ በጠቅላይ ምኒስትር ፀሐፌ ትዕዛዝ አክሊሉ ሀብተወልድ አቅራቢነት በጊዜው በአቶ ሐዲስ ዓለማየሁ ምኒስትርነት ይመራ በነበረው በፕላን እና ልማት ሚኒስቴር ውስጥ የመምሪያ ሃላፊ ሁነው ከሰሩ ወዲያ መሥሪያ ቤቱን የመምራት ዕድል አግኝተው እስከ አብዮት ዘመን ድረስ አገራቸውን ለዘጠኝ ዓመት አገልግለዋል። ቀጥሎም በአፍሪካ ልማት ባንክ ከአሥራ ስደስት ዓመት በላይ በልዩ ልዩ የሃላፊነት ሥፍራዎች ተመድበው ለባንኩ ዕድገት የማይናቅ አስተዋጽኦ እንዳበረከቱ በጊዜው ይነገርላቸው ነበር። አቢጃን (አይቮሪ ኮስት) ከሚገኘው ከባንኩ መቀመጫ ወደ ኢትዮጵያ እንደተመለሱም አቢሲንያ ባንክን በማቋቋም ላይ ከነበሩ ከነአቶ ደበበ ሀብተ ዮሐንስ፣ ኃይሉ ሻውል፣ ጀኔራል ታፈሰ አያሌው፣ ተመስገን መሐሪ፣ ታምሩ ወንድማገኘሁና ከሌሎችም ጋር በመተባባር የሥራ አስኪያጅነቱን ሃላፊነት ተቀበለው ለሰባት ዓመት ያህል አገልግለዋል። አቢሲንያ ባንክ ዛሬ ካለበት ደረጃ እንዲደርስ ካስቻሉ ቀደምት መሪዎችና ባንኩን ካሳደጉ ከዛሬው ዋና ሥራ አስኪያጅ ከአቶ በቃሉ ዘለቀ እና ካንዳንድ ባለአክስዮኖች ጋር ስማቸው የሚጠቀስ መሪ ናቸው። የዘጠና አንድ ዘመን አዛውንቱ አቶ ተካልኝ የሶስት ልጆች አባት ሲሆኑ በአሁኑ ሰዓት የጡረታ ዘመን ሕይወታቸውን በፊላዴልፍያ (አሜሪካ) እየመሩ ይገኛሉ።
Mr. Tekalign Gedamu was employed in July 1959 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York within the Industrial Development Department. After working there for about two years, he transferred to the Addis Ababa branch office and served for eight years in various positions as an economist. Later, upon the recommendation of Tsehafi Taezaz (Minister of the Pen) Aklilu Habtewold, he served as a department head in the Ministry of Planning and Development, which was led at the time by Minister Haddis Alemayehu. Subsequently, he had the opportunity to lead the ministry and served his country for nine years until the revolution. Following that, he was assigned to various leadership positions at the African Development Bank for over sixteen years and was recognized at the time for making a significant contribution to the bank's growth. Upon returning to Ethiopia from the bank's headquarters in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), he collaborated with individuals like Mr. Debebe Habte Yohannes, Hailu Shawul, General Tafesse Ayalew, Temesgen Mehari, Tamiru Wondimagegnehu, and others who were establishing Abyssinia Bank. He accepted the responsibility of General Manager and served for about seven years. He is one of the early leaders who enabled Abyssinia Bank to reach its current level of success, and his name is mentioned alongside the current CEO, Mr. Bekalu Zeleke, and some shareholders as someone who developed the bank. The ninety-one-year-old Mr. Tekalign is a father of three and is currently living his retirement in Philadelphia (USA).
