This week has been heavy, and we’re grieving with Minneapolis in the wake of unspeakable violence.
Children here and in every part of the world deserve the right to learn, play, pray, and go home to their families at the end of the day. The promise of safety - at school, at church, among people we love - has been shattered, again.
No matter the depth of anger and grief we feel, vilifying q***r and trans folks for the actions of one individual will not be tolerated. Marginalized communities are not a monolith, and committing further harm to an already targeted group only perpetuates the damage we are seeking to repair.
Yesterday’s shooting was another tragic failure by our leaders. While we may never be able to fully piece together the circumstances leading to this tragedy, we will continue to hold accountable the systems that allow for this to happen time and time again. Beyond thoughts and prayers, we commit to calling our representatives forward to be leaders of change in Minnesota with the common goal of ensuring basic safety for all. That begins with common sense gun laws and accessible mental health care. It is well past time, and our communities deserve so much better than this.
