Pianist and composer Alice Coltrane was born on 27 August 1937 in Detroit.
Among the musicians she played with were Cecil Taylor and Joe Henderson.
In 1994, her version of ‘A Love Supreme’ appeared on the GRP album ‘Stolen Moments: Red Hot + Cool’.

Remembering a GRP President!
The late Tommy LiPuma, who was born on 5 July 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, was a celebrated music producer. He received 33 Grammy nominations, five Grammy wins, and his productions sold over 75 million albums.
LiPuma was a former President of GRP Records and later chairman of Verve Records Music.

A Horace Silver classic!
'A Prescription for the Blues', recorded on 29 and 30 May 1997, when Horace Silver was 68, reunited the great piano player with the Brecker brothers, with Randy playing trumpet and Michael Brecker on tenor saxophone.
All nine songs, including 'Doctor Jazz' and 'Brother John and Brother Gene' were composed by Silver. The album was released on the Impulse! Label and GRP Records.
