I-Raq Records The former home of pioneering Australian crew Koolism and current stable of Axe Aklins, super duo KPI and the Mighty Hard Rockers. This is no joke.

Balls deep in Australian hip hop since 1999. Born from an egg on a mountain top, I-Raq Records burst forth from the womb in jets of bloody mucous in 1999 - the brainchild of the secret Illuminati brotherhood pulling the strings of Canberra-based musical monsters Koolism. After being forced at gun point to release epic EP's 'The Season' and 'Blue Notes' along with the stone cold Australian classic

'Pt.1' in 2000, the boys quickly realised that being signed to a label that contributed absolutely nothing to them beyond a shoddy logo and misguided criticism was slightly less than optimal and decided to escape - going on to arguably greater things on some other khant's label before ever managing to release the remaining EPs of the mythical Koolism 4 part series. Tearfully waving farewell to their departed bredren whilst simultaneously stuffing tea towels into the gaping holes in their collective heart to stem the flow of grief-tinged, yet heroic, hip hop golden era-issued blood, I-Raq Records immediately turned it's dynamism and endless creative ability to the fashion world, morphing into Article Don apparel - in the process managing to piggy back off the success of Koolism for at least a few more years as it churned out seminal threads in it's South-East Asian sweatshops staffed by under-aged tarsiers, paid entirely in synthetic grasshoppers (made in Article Don's Bangladesh-based synthetic insect factories). The 2000's saw a steady stream of releases from KOA Sound System alumni, Koolism and Axe Aklins - conquering ear canals both here and abroad, occasionally moistening the odd panty liner and armpit in the process, yet somehow accidentally forgetting to come out through the immortal I-Raq Records label. Fast fwd to 2016 where after years of harassment from industry peers and fans as far away as Uzbekistan and Cooma, the council of learned elders that oversaw the creation of the musical powerhouse that is I-Raq Muthaf**ken Records has agreed to again unleash the Deathrow Records of Tuggeranong upon an unsuspecting and extremely vulnerable public (who're just asking for it, look at the way they're dressed!). Right out the gate we've got some heavy s**t ready to unload on your ears and distribute forcefully about the general cranial and thoracic zones. Coming straight out of Queanbeyan with the force of 11 yowies duct taped together to make 1 giant voltron yowie is the Magnificent Axe Aklins, who has been locked away in his rap dungeon steadily crafting epic blood-soaked tales of street violence and young love over the past 2 years. Expect a mixtape, album and several EPs coming your way post haste khants! On top of that, supersonic undercover corporate mobster duo KPI are pushing for poll position as first official release on the reborn I-Raq Records with their debut masterpiece being mixed down as I punch these keys (and your face if you don't cop these releases). Pure dusty, crusty, golden era stylee hip hop devoid of all forms of trendy f**kery and softness. Get that s**t somewhere else, ya sweet little chocolate dipped marshmallow with sprinkles and s**t...

Stay tuned brothers and sisters. Proper vibes soon to be obtained from this corrupt yet admirable vibe merchant with a heart of gold, I-Raq Records. Spread the word! (I already told your mums). Share this s**t and keep checking back for more updates. hopefully some download links and clips to be posted soon. One love khants!

Upload number 5 on the journey through the I-Raq Records archives is another Axe Aklins joint - this one is the Hayds produced Somethin' off the Around Every Corner EP released in 2019.

I feel as though this joint was one of those tracks that got slept on. The beat is dope and the chorus sample compliments the track nicely.

the Around Every Corner EP is mixed/mastered by Ciecmate, so you know the quality is top notch. In addition to the mix/mastering duties, Ciecmate produced 3 x P and featured on the Platterpush produced joint 'Wrong Side of the Tracks'.

Hayds produced Around Every Corner and Somethin' whiulst D'Opus produced the funky concept track 'The End'.

You can check out/download the EP for free at the following:

Photo of Hau teaching some punters how to spell Koolism. Not sure why he is so focused on the S when the K is probably the confusing part.

Would be great to see some classic or even new Koolism music be released in the future.

4th upload on this journey through the archives is the I-Raq Records Records' flagship crew, the almighty Koolism with one of their all-time classics 'Run the Place Hot', which first appeared on the Blue Notes EP in 2000.

Koolism has played a significant role in shaping the Australian Hip Hop scene, through Danielsans willingness to experiment musically producing some of the best beats I have ever heard and Hau's ability to rip rhymes with the best of them.

Seth and myself wanted to reboot I-Raq Records as an ode to Koolism and also provide an avenue for us to showcase Axe Aklins' new music. Since then we have expanded our roster to include Mighty Hard Rockers, KPI, Dassler Bros and Axe and Jayo. Who knows what the future will bring, secretly I am hoping for some classic unreleased Koolism tunes to be released through the Raq and/or an instrumental release by Danielsan. I am sure you all have your own wish lists.

3rd track on the journey through the I-Raq Records archives is 'Stop' by Axe Aklins featuring the legendary Percee P.

Myself and Too Deadly had the pleasure of opening one night for Percee P in Canberra. Back then, Transit Bar with the help of promoter Jem Natividad was able to bring international acts to Canberra and provide the chance for local artists/groups to open the show.

Too Deadly and I had formed a group called 'Deadly Axe' which we recorded all the music on Ngunnawal country with the use of a petrol generator. Deadly and I are big Percee P fans, so we jumped at the opportunity to open for him. Percee is super cool. I ended up spending my show money, which is was $50 on his merch.

The Wishful Thinkin' Mixtape was released in 2019, however the tracks were recorded and released on soundcloud prior to that. The Mixtape features guest spots from Hau, Hayds, Lash, Roshambo and suavess; and is available for free download at the following: https://axeaklins.bandcamp.com/album/wishful-thinkin-mixtape

New tunes coming soon.. but hope you are enjoying this journey back through time.

Check it out.

The following is video recorded vision from the 22nd of May 1992 at the Firehouse nightclub in Canberra this was on Wednesday night at the under 18s disco. The following is a performance by the group heart to soul which included dancing b-boying and rapping (by a young Hau who went onto Koolism). The Firehouse previously was Joel's nightclub and then after the Firehouse became heaven nightclub. 1992 was the height of the new Jack swing movement in Canberra..
