Growing up in rural Maine without the distraction of even a television, .greenough Rogers often found herself alone with nothing but her imagination and the natural world around her for inspiration. Now based in the very different environs of Brooklyn, where she is rapidly emerging as a vibrant new voice on the progressive jazz scene, the pianist and composer often finds herself drawing on those early years to guide her distinctive musical approach.

One image that often returns to Rogers’ mind’s eye is the button jar that her artist mother kept for craft projects – a stockpile of mundane but multi-hued items that could be reimagined into endless creative permutations. “It felt like a jar of possibilities,” Rogers says. “You could use it for any number of projects, but you had to know how to properly sew the button on, so it became a balance of whimsical fun and meticulous craftsmanship.”

That notion became a guiding principle for The Button Jar, Rogers’ captivating new solo piano album. Scheduled for release on May 8, 2026 via Pyroclastic Records, the album provides an entrancing introduction to Rogers’ singular sound, a deeply personal weave of play and rigor that marshals childlike wonder in service of a complex and intricate use of rhythm and harmony.

A new single! “Bespattered Bygones”, out today from Brandon Seabrook Quartet featuring Elias Stemeseder, Erica Dicker and Henry Fraser 🖤

“Human beings are creatures of story. Experimenting and searching for new ways to tell stories and bring the listener along is important to me. I really wanted this album to dwell in that daydream landscape, still subversive but in a more welcoming atmosphere.” - Brandon Seabrook

Full album GARGANTUA drops March 27. Pre-order at link in bio 🧡

In drawing inspiration from the work of 16th-century novelist François Rabelais for his audacious new album, GARGANTUA, composer Simon Hanes has crafted a daring and irreverent set of music that indulges in every aspect of its source’s colossal appetites. It is bracingly excessive in its every aspect – pendulum swings from lyrical beauty to corrosive noise, jarring stylistic shifts that collide the transcendent mysticism of Hildegard of Bingen with the blistering metal of Behemoth; the polyphony of Tibetan Buddhist singing with the sonic sculptures of Edgard Varèse and the salacious swagger of Led Zeppelin. What emerges from these incongruous antecedents is wholly original, digesting but never echoing Hanes’ influences and reimagining their aspects on a grandiose scale.

The music is scored for three drum sets (Jon Starks, Matt Bent, Kevin Murray), three electric basses (Anna Abondolo, Jesse Heasly, Trevor Dunn), three trombones (Jen Baker, Jacob Garchik, Colin Babcock), three French horns (Kevin Newton, Noah Fotis, Blair Hamrick) and three soprano voices (Priya Carlberg, Isa Crespo Pardo, Jolee Gordon).

Inventive guitarist, banjoist and composer Brandon Seabrook explores dream logic and surreal storytelling with his mesmerizing new album 🧡

Hellbent Daydream, out February 20, 2026, debuts Seabrook’s quartet with pianist/synth player Elias Stemeseder, bassist Henry Fraser and violinist Erica DIcker

“Henry and Erica blend together so well,” Seabrook says, “and after a number of gigs together we discovered that we all shared an amazing chemistry. They both bring an excitement, a verve and an intensity to the music. Then I thought that the addition of Elias’ piano and synth would allow the music to become more cinematic and open up some more of the emotional exposition.”

This eccentric conglomeration of voices invited a number of wide-ranging influences to swirl together in Seabrook’s hazy, fervid musical daydreams. The dark theatrical storytelling of Stephen Sondheim melds with the rich, insinuating harmonies of late-era Beach Boys; Chopinesque chamber romanticism is roughened by the countrified grit of Appalachian folk melody.

Happy release day to Trio of Bloom 🤍

The seed of an idea from which Trio of Bloom sprouted was simply three names, and the limitless potential they suggested: keyboardist Craig Taborn, guitarist Nels Cline and drummer Marcus Gilmore. Three wholly singular artists, but with intrepid spirits in common; musical omnivores, with indelible voices that reject categorization, sharing an indefatigable compulsion to venture into previously undiscovered sonic territory. On their debut release, Taborn, Cline and Gilmore converge for their first-ever meeting – blossoming, like the flowers that grace the album’s artwork, into a living thing of radiant beauty, startling vibrancy and sultry intensity.

Aquarius - new single out from Patricia Brennan’s upcoming large ensemble recording! ‘Of the Near and Far’ is out on Pyroclastic Records October 24.

“Aquarius (The Water Bearer) is one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac, often depicted as a figure carrying a vessel of water. One of the larger water-themed constellations, it is commonly associated with humanitarianism, idealism, and innovation. In Greek mythology, Ganymede was abducted by Zeus to serve as the cupbearer to the gods for eternity. The constellation symbolizes Ganymede’s role and is also linked to the god of rain. This composition focuses on the textural qualities of water—its flow and the resistance to it, the roughness and imperfections that shape its surface. The melody, carried by the vibraphone and guitar, pours through the bar lines with polyrhythmic fluidity. The strings create a layered soundscape made up of overlapping rhythmic figures. Each string instrument plays a unique rhythmic pattern with specific pitches that, when combined, evoke the image of light reflecting off a shimmering, fractured aquatic surface. The rhythm section sets the course for an eternal journey towards an unreachable horizon until the final note of the piano is heard. Water represents life—a life full of beautiful imperfections.” - Patricia Brennan

New album on the way from visionary vibraphonist, marimbist and composer Patricia Brennan 🤍

Out October 24, 2025, ‘Of The Near And Far’ marks another audacious evolution for Brennan, whose music combines bold innovation with singular ventures into her own wide-ranging inspirations. Where the 2024 release ‘Breaking Stretch’ incorporated elements of folkloric traditions from her native Mexico along with Afro-Caribbean, funk and salsa sounds, the new album has its roots in Brennan’s classical percussion studies at Philadelphia’s prestigious Curtis Institute of Music and her contemporaneous passion for the adventurous alt-rock of the ‘90s, bands like Radiohead and Soundgarden.

The ten-piece ensemble featured marries the worlds of jazz and new music in varied combinations. Brennan is joined by pianist Sylvie Courvoisier, guitarist Miles Okazaki, bassist Kim Cass and drummer John Hollenbeck, complemented by violinists Modney and Pala Garcia, violist Kyle Armbrust and cellist Michael Nicolas as well as the electronic musician Arktureye, all conducted by Eli Greenhoe.

New single out from Ned Rothenberg, this time for solo alto saxophone - “Urgency” 🖤

Hailed as “America’s most intimate composer and improviser” (All Music Guide), multi-instrumentalist Ned Rothenberg has evolved a singular and deeply personal language on an array of woodwinds – primarily alto saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, and shakuhachi flute – over the course of four and a half decades of investigatory musicianship. On ‘Looms & Legends’, his first solo recording since 2012’s clarinet-focused World of Odd Harmonics (Tzadik), Rothenberg once again reveals himself to be a captivating storyteller and an unparalleled sonic architect.
