I was your average guy with a wife and two kids, working hard but never getting ahead. I wanted more than just "getting by." I wanted to give my family a life of freedom, to see my wife quit her job, and set my boys up for a future without financial struggle. Yet, every time I thought I found the answer—whether through a job or trading—the same crushing doubt and failure hit me harder than before.

Then, I lost my job. My world fell apart. My wife had to work for the man who fired me, and I felt like I had failed her, failed my boys, failed myself. In the midst of this shame, all I had left was trading, but every time I tried, I failed. I thought I was doing it for them, but deep down, I realized I had made it all about me—my pride, my fear, my failure.

That’s when everything shifted. God showed me that it wasn’t about how much money I could make—it was about why I was doing it in the first place. Once I shifted my focus from "me" to "them"—my family—everything changed. I built a simple trading system, one that worked because it kept my pride out of the way. Now, I trade on cruise control, and my family is finally thriving.

Today, I wouldn’t call myself a professional trader. I’m a Professional Family Man. And my mission now is to help others learn how to turn their focus from fear and failure to freedom and fulfillment for their family.

Mary, mom of four and business owner of The Merry Assistant, is a virtual assistant/social media manager specializing in supporting authors, small businesses and creatives.

Mary’s grief journey began early, shaped by abandonment from both parents, a childhood in poverty, and time spent navigating the broken foster care system. Despite the challenges, she was given a chance.

Recently, her father’s passing brought an unexpected chapter: as his only child and heir, Mary was left to untangle the pieces of a life she knew little about. In the months following his passing, Mary pieced together her father’s life as best she could—not only to find the father who had left her, but also to uncover the child he once was, the teenager he became, the man he grew into, and the world that had failed him, thus gaining a deeper understanding of him and offering the grace, honor, and dignity in his death that he wasn’t always afforded in his life.

A deeply spiritual person, this experience shifted her spiritual path, pushing her to embrace her feminine strength and explore healing on a deeper level.

Diagnosed with a dissociative disorder as an adult, Mary found validation and understanding of her journey, allowing her to move forward with compassion for herself and others. As an advocate for unheard voices—those shaped by systems they never chose—Mary’s unique perspective as a former foster child and survivor of generational trauma informs her work, her healing, and her life’s purpose.

She is living proof that where you begin doesn’t define where you can go.

Heidi Dunstan is a Certified Grief Educator, Best Selling Author, and International Speaker. Her passion to help others, learn what to say and not say to someone who is grieving so we don’t lose the legacies of those we have lost came after losing her husband in 2018. Her experience with friends and loved ones saying the wrong thing or completely disappearing gave her first-hand knowledge that many are left grieving in silence which means the legacies of those we have lost are also silenced. Heidi is changing the narrative on grief and helping people to feel equipped to lean in and support their grievers, so we can grieve with grace together.
