Our stories are told without expensive technological gimmickry or dramatic, theatrical acting. Recent Pakistani 'blockbusters' represent a spectacular advance in their use of film technology over the old Lollywood-style burlesque. However, they are years behind Hollywood (or even Bollywood) films because they do not have and may never have those budgets or that technological edge. Christopher Nola
n's 'Interstellar', for example, cost a $165,000,000 to make - it would be nonsense for a Pakistani film-maker to compete with it on its terms. But as a profound and simple story about the separation of a child from her parent, Interstellar can certainly be bettered here, in Pakistan, on a small budget. To ensure that we do not have to make creative compromises in CPP films, we strive to keep our production costs low and we rely on other work to make a living. CPP films are made in accordance with the following rules:
1. Only non-professional 'prosumer' cameras may be used.
2. No constructed sets or chroma key.
3. The story unfolds in the present or is period-neutral.
4. The use of embedded soundtracks or background scores (as a tool to motivate narrative) is avoided or minimized. Cinema Pure is Ahmed Arif, Sarmed Mirza, Yasir Khan, Malika Zafar, Faiz Zaidi and possibly others.

"The allotted function of art is not to put across ideas, to propagate thoughts, or to serve as example. The aim of art is to prepare a person for death, to plough and harrow his soul, rendering it capable of turning to good."
- Andrei Tarkovsky, 'Sculpting in Time' (1987)
