We ease into the softer shadows of the jazz vocal world with this week’s Quieter Side edition—featuring album debuts, previews, and heartfelt interpretations of standards from Syndee Winters, Kieran Brown, Janet Planet, Emma Smith, and Susan Krebs.

John and Janet have released a new album “Last Call”, to critical acclaim!

We will celebrate this release and this musical relationship that spans over three decades. We will also celebrate the up coming birthday of “Wisconsin’s Gentle Poet” John Harmon, who will be turning 90 years young this year!

This venue is perfect to feature the intimacy of the the recent release “Last Call” but we will also be celebrating the soulful music we love – Jazz, with one of the most soulful musicians we know, saxophonist/singer, JULI WOOD!

I was reminded of this song yesterday.
It was recorded with a smaller ensemble on Janet Planet Sings The Bob Dylan Songbook vol 1.
Then, Tom Washatka made this arrangement for big band. I owe a big thanks to Tom Theabo for his initial concept and Kyle Knoke for his initial vision.
We have continued to output in our community.
Happy 4th everyone. Let’s keep the faith.

The Garden Variety

An older woman
Content to be surrounded by the pure beauty of nature.
Getting her hands dirty and fingernails muddy.
Eluding thoughts of failure by breathing the surrounding fragrance of the honeysuckles.
Failure…?
Never having made it to the top.
The top of what? she asks herself.
The top of limitless expectations?
The top of her innocent dreaming,
fueled by “Disney induced”, perceptions?
Does it really matter what top is top?
Is this moment the last?
Has your “top” toppled?

And then, you die…
