I saw the heart of America today - by the thousands - as the people showed it to the world. In LA there was a sense of joy and euphoria. The streets teemed with humanity. Children blew bubbles. People chanted and waved. It went on for hours. Then, when Trump was getting his parade at our expense in DC, in LA the police attacked and hearded us, rushing the crowd without cause or warning, using tear gas and flash bangs that injured innocent pople there to be heard. Politicians can tell their stories, but today we SAW EACH OTHER. They will never be able to take that away. Sorry for some profanity in the shots, but this is the way it was. [Edited to add more content.]

I'm a believer in credits that show the actors with their names. These people put in the work, and without them there would be no show.This is the credit roll for "Jack Hardy's Guide to Blackjack”.
I'm posting this as a continued thank you to everyone who helped make this odd little feature film a success. If it never airs on HBO, Netflix or such, you still deserve the exposure. And if it does, well, Yay. Thank you all, as always.

P.S. I'm also a believer in making everyting in a film count, so there is some Story in the credits, for those of you who have seen it. That's new., I think.

Last but not least. The Voice Behind the Closing Credits. Kaia DuMars Yoshii. I'm privileged to be the one to bring this Kaia's nuanced voice to the world, singing "Gentle to the Wind" in the closing credits. At 16 she is already an advanced arts student. Watch this one!

It's done. What a moment. I sent it to the techs at SIFF and it passed all the technical checks. Tomorrow, Friday is the lull before the storm. See you on Saturday. Greetup is at 2, showtime 2:30.
Remember to reserve your tickets. We've already filled half the theater on word of mouth.

If you're reading this, you are probably in the credits. I don't necessarily have everyone's contact email, so if you were on a shoot please check with others that were there to be sure they know the very first screening is 10-19 at 2:30, and to come early at 2 for THE GATHERING. Mary D. Fisher Theater in Sedona. And reserve your tickets at the link below because there were 84 of you involved and the theater only holds 112. The button says "buy tickets" but they are compimentary, $0. (Photo is me documenting the VERY LAST SHOT for the film today.) Don't plan on there being a second show, because I may run away and hide in a cave somewhere with PTSD somewhere in the middle of the show. (You will be scanned for tomatos as you enter.) Here is a joyful shout-out to Anton du Preez for his delightful work in bringing to life some of the music in "Jack Hardy's Guide to Blackjack". His musical acumen shines in the poignant "Picture of Your Soul", the snappy "Baby's Jet Plane" and the devilish tango piece "Dead.Again". Even so, I didn't begin to scratch his full range and capabilities.
Anton is a composer, singer, and songwriter in Palm Springs and Los Angeles. He is a regular performer and recording artist, and also composes and produces for various projects. His credits include a number of Hallmark and Lifetime films, the TV series “Demonhuntr,” singing for video games including Destiny, Diablo, and World of Warcraft, and he has released several albums. He is also a transcriber for Disney Character Voices International, a Neurologic Doctor of Physical Therapy, a registered therapy dog team, a US Navy veteran, and proudly gay.
Anton earned his Master of Music in Film Composition in 2018, studying with two-time Emmy Award winning composer, Hummie Mann, in the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program at the Seattle Film Institute.
His greatest joy in life is sharing and experiencing music. Its ability to simultaneously convey and elicit emotion to enhance the experience of life and film, and to express complex feelings with the vast array of tiny nuances or grandiose breadth that words alone could never express.
We are proud to share his work with you!
I love what he did for us, so yes, thank you Anton du Preez. And now I'm going to start up the film's playlist while I continue polishing up for the premier.

DROPPED and already selling! You can now listen to and purchase three of the songs from "Jack Hardy's Guide to Blackjack" at https://antondupreezmusic.com/songs. The link takes you to the page where you can hear the snappy show opener "Baby's Jet Plane" as well as the poignant "Picture of Your Soul" and the devilish "Dead.Again" (an ever-ending story).

There are three versions of each song, but the dialog version in "Baby's Jet Plane" offers a peek into the show as well.

When I started this show I never expected this.
Anton du Preez has been a joy to work with. He navigated all the unique challenges I asked of him with ease, and I'm sure you'll find the results delightful. More about this accomplished man in a deserved separate post.
