BISHOP GATIMU NGANDU GIRLS GRILLED OVER SH.1M STOCK INVESTMENT

Parliament's Public Investments Committee has put Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School on the spot over a Sh1 million investment at the Nairobi Securities Exchange that earned just Sh5,381in a whole year.

MPs questioned why the school was investing public funds in shares while parents continue contributing money for school needs. The Auditor-General had flagged Sh1.58 million in "short-term investments" with no certificates or supporting documents to prove it even existed.

Committee chairman Hon. Dick Maungu wasn't impressed: "Girls will continue asking parents for money, yet they have money sitting in a platform, and that money is not adding value to the school."

Embakasi MP Hon. Mark Mwenje was blunt: "Schools are there to educate children. They are not investment centres."

The school's bursar admitted the investment "could not maybe give value for money," and couldn't even name the specific shares purchased. The investment reportedly dates back to before 2010.

The committee has now ordered the school to return with:
✅ Proof of Treasury approval
✅ Details of shares bought
✅ Board & parents' meeting minutes
✅ Performance records

Former officials who initiated the investment have also been summoned to explain themselves.

The matter has been deferred pending full documentation.
