On Friday, July 18, Alligator Records will release Crown Jewels, the new greatest hits LP and digital-only album from the legendary Queen Of The Blues, Koko Taylor. The album -- available on 140g black vinyl and at all digital service providers -- collects 12 of Taylor's most powerful, dynamic and impactful performances, all newly remastered. From the iconic Wang Dang Doodle to the forceful and empowering I'm A Woman to the raucous Hey Bartender to the heart-melting live rendition of I'd Rather Go Blind to the blistering original Ernestine, Taylor proves why, over the course of her four-decade career, she had no peers.
According to Alligator Records founder and president Bruce Iglauer, Crown Jewels is Taylor at her very best. "Koko Taylor, the GRAMMY-winning Queen of the Blues, was a member of the Alligator family for 34 years, from her label debut in 1975 until her death in 2009. During that time, she toured worldwide, devastating audiences with her lioness’ power and the depth of her soul. She cut nine albums for Alligator, each filled with her timeless royal performances. For Crown Jewels, we picked and remastered songs from throughout her career, highlighting her most-requested fan favorites—each one a gem."
