We're excited to announce the winner of this year’s Best Picture Award at the West End Film Festival:

A Moment for Melvin
Directed by David Lawrence

Selected for its unique vision and glorious production quality, this film stood out among a record number of submissions. A Moment for Melvin represents Australian independent filmmaking at it's best: bizarre, local and bursting with joy. It's a surrealist comedy about Melvin, a man with a tissue box for a head.

Thanks to all the filmmakers, and Melvin, who participated in the 2025 West End Film Festival - let's do it again next year but bigger and better!

We’re pleased to announce that A Moment for Melvin by David Lawrence has been nominated for Best Picture at WEFF 2025.

"Melvin has a tissue box for a head. When he uses his last tissue he will drop dead. When faced with a personal crisis Melvin invites his neighbour over to solve his tissue problem. But Melvin has some skeletons in his closet."

Screening today in our SCI-FI & FANTASY session, 7:30pm at Catchment Brewing Co!

WEFF 2025 Awards will include:

– Best Picture
– The 4101 Award, recognising the best film made in the 4101 postcode
– Audience Choice Awards across each genre
– A selection of Honourable Mentions chosen by the jury

Winners will be announced TONIGHT at the Awards Ceremony.
