Bipolar Disorder II and OCD are poignant issues that are not openly addressed enough.

But why do we hesitate speaking about these topics?

I had the pleasure of sitting down with my guest - Promira Banerjee to decode the scenes behind living with Bipolar Disorder II.

Promita Banerjee is an author , filmmaker, and producer whose work explores truth, trauma, and transformation. Beginning with her debut novel Songs from Then, she has consistently centered voices often silenced by history. Her storytelling expanded into film after completing the Filmmaking Program at the New York Film Academy, where she discovered a natural affinity for producing and directing.

Her short film Ah Kino earned an official selection at the Hollywood International Indie Screenplay Awards (April 2025). She has since written, directed, and produced projects including Another Day in Paradise (selected in film collection for Voice for Change), Big Sad, and Pirouette, with submissions to festivals such as Sundance, Tribeca, Cannes, and London.

Promita’s creative vision is deeply shaped by her lived experience with Bipolar Disorder II and OCD, which fuel her commitment to emotionally resonant, socially urgent narratives. She believes in the power of storytelling, whether through page or screen to inspire empathy, ignite dialogue, and preserve emotional truths.

Qissa - Youtube

The after-effects of Partition can never be truly removed from our and our ancestors’ lives.

The infamous Radcliffe Line was much more than a line - a dent so deep that it scathed our hearts, souls and legacies for generations to come.

Is Qissa about just one specific family that falls prey to the division? Or does it hold a mirror to show the state of millions of such families who had to go through unimaginable trauma of those days.

A story of a father who is so blind in his love for a son that he starts bringing his daughter like one. Was he just another patriarchal man who fell to his ingrained mindset? OR, was he just trying to be protective of the other ladies in the family by ensuring that they had a ‘man’ with them long after he was gone.

Some of the finest acting by Irrfan Khan and Tillotama Shome.

Made me sit and think - our thoughts/mindset are just like ghosts. They stay long after we are gone.

Highly recommend.

The next guest on my podcast - Arunava Khasnobis, an Indian Film Director, was born in a small town in the foothills of the Himalayas. He quit his growing corporate life to follow his passion for filmmaking at the age of 26. In 2010, he has completed his debut movie "Bhalobasa Off Route E", followed by working as "Associate Director" in films like Hawa Bodol (2013), Lorai: Play to Live (2015) and few more. Disillusioned about the commercial film industry of India, he has devoted the last three years to study the art and craft of filmmaking, apart from journeying across India in understanding of the meta-physical and spiritual realities of the saints and their lives. "Bisorgo" is his second film and is the output of 8 years of conceptualization, ultimately leading to logical pit-stop in his journey as a filmmaker.

He hosts ‘Soul connection’ – Bengal’s own podcast where he engages with guests from all fields ranging from Economics to Politics, Film stars to Activists.

This conversation was about movies, Bangla arts and podcasts and much more.

Please have a listen.

Thank you.

A woman’s body has always been the subject of intrigue, mystique and judgementalism. The world has been set up in such a way that women are expected to cover up and behave a certain way, no matter who they are.

The agency over a woman’s body seems to be owned by everybody, but herself.

Sometimes, people tend to forget that artistes are human beings too. They are made up of flesh and bones and have their own journeys behind, and ahead of them.

Kudos to Ms Anoushka Shankar for this post. 🙏🏻
