On Friday, October 17th at approximately 11:36p, the Wantagh Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire on Chase Ln. 3rd Assistant Chief Dolley [6903] and 2nd Assistant Chief Krussman [6902] were quickly on the road and advised that dispatch received 2 calls for the fire and a member on scene reporting the side of the house on fire. Upon the arrival of 1st Assistant Chief Stevens [6901], a Signal 10 was transmitted with active fire on the side of the house extending other the 2nd floor. Engine 692 was first due and stretched the initial line to quickly knock down the main body of fire. At least 2 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the fire with the assistance of a FAST from Levittoeb. The fire was placed under control in approximately 30 minutes under the direction of 1st Assistant Chief Stevens. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Thursday, October 9th at approximately 12:15am, the Hicksville Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a Building Fire at Halal Munchies on East Marie St across from their Headquarters. Chief of Department DiFronzo [9301] was quickly on the road and advised by dispatch that smoke was visible from Headquarters and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Upon the arrival of Chief DiFronzo, he found an active basement fire in a 2-story commercial building with multiple occupancies and upgraded the alarm to a 2nd Alarm. Volunteer Hose Company Engine 934 was first due and put the initial hand line into operation to begin extinguishing the fire. As crews continued to stretch multiple hand lines and conduct searches, heavy smoke was found from Chic Couture Boutique, an occupancy on the other side of the building. With conditions worsening and the fire identified as gas fed with an inoperable curb valve, the decision was made to transition to defensive operations with crews cutting holes in the floors of the affected stores to begin operations with bresnan distributors and a master stream from Syosset Tower Ladder 582. The main body of fire was knocked down in approximately 90 minutes with assistance of crews from Bethpage, Westbury, Jericho, Levittown, Carle Place, Plainview, Farmingdale, East Meadow, Roslyn Rescue, South Farmingdale, North Bellmore, East Norwich, Atlantic Steamer, Locust Valley, North Massapequa and North Merrick. Crews remained on scene to mitigate the gas leak for multiple hours while National Grid worked to secure the gas leak. The case of the fire is under investigation.

On Monday, October 6th at approximately 10:10p, the Albertson Fire Company was dispatched to a reported car fire on Willis Avenue. Engine 806 was quickly on scene finding active fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle and stretched 1 line to quickly extinguish the fire. With the assistance of Engine 8011 and Ladder 809, crews operated on scene to approximately 20 minutes before being released.

On Thursday, September 11th at approximately 7:20p, the Hicksville Fire Departmrnt was dispatched to a reported house fire on Bird Ln. 1st Assistant Chief Wright [9302] quickly arrived on scene finding smoke showing from the house, requesting a FAST from Westbury and after a brief search, transmitted a Signal 10 with confirmed fire on the 1st and 2nd floor. Engine 937 was first due and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire. With the assistance of additional mutual aid crews from Bethpage, East Meadow, Carle Place and Levittown, 3 lines were stretched with at least 2 placed into operation before the fire was placed under control in approximately 30 minutes under the direction of Chief of Department DiFronzo [9301]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Sunday, September 7th, the Hicksville Fire Department held their annual September 11th Remembrance Ceremony at Station 3 on Strong St. Held annually on the Sunday before September 11th, the Department honors the memory of over 20 Hicksville residents who were lost on 9/11 including 2 department members, Ex-Chief Terrence Farrell of Citizens Engine Company 3/FDNY Rescue 4 and Honorary Chief George Howard of Emergency Company 5/PAPD.

The ceremony was led by Ex-Chief Schweitzer and began with a presentation of colors and a salute to the flag. After brief remarks, members of Company 3 and Company 5 laid wreaths in honor of their departed members before the names of the Hicksville residents who were lost that day were read. Members along with the community in attendance were then invited to visit the September 11th memorial outside of Station 3 to place flowers and pay their respects to those who were lost.

On Thursday, September 4th at approximately 9:15p, the Roosevelt Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke from the building at the intersection of Nassau Rd and East Raymond St. All 3 Roosevelt Chiefs were quickly on the scene finding smoke from a Deli in a 1-story commercial building on Nassau Rd and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Engine 732 was first due and stretched the initial line into the deli to quickly locate and extinguish the main body of fire. At least 2 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish and overhaul the fire with the assistance of crews from Freeport, Merrick, North Merrick and Uniondale. The fire was placed under control in under 30 minutes under the direction of Chief of Department Tyler [7300]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Wednesday, September 3rd at 12:15a, the Hempstead Fire Department along with a dual response engine from West Hempstead were dispatched to a reported house fire with people trapped on Rutland Rd. Ladder 2 quickly arrived on scene finding fire showing from the 1st & 2nd floor of the house and a Working Fire was transmitted. Engine 1 was the first engine and stretched the initial line through the front door to quickly knock down a large volume of fire. At least 3 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the main body of fire with the assistance of crews from Uniondale, Roosevelt, Freeport, Baldwin, South Hempstead, Rockville Centre and Elmont. Under the Direction of Chief of Department Fitzroy [80], the fire was placed under control in approximately 1 hour. All occupants of the house were able to safely evacuate and were accounted for. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Tuesday, August 26th just before 1am, the Syosset Fire Department was dispatched to a reported apartment fire on Fairhaven Blvd at the Eagle Rock Apartments. First arriving units encountered heavy fire from the 1st floor of a 2-story multiple dwelling and a 2nd Alarm working fire was transmitted due to the occupancy type. Engine 587 and Ladder 582 were first due and placed the initial line into operation to begin extinguishing the fire while numerous occupants were assisted from their apartments. Multiple hand lines were placed into operation to extinguish the main body of fire with the assistance of crews from Bethpage, Plainview, Jericho, Hicksville, Westbury, Locust Valley, Glen Cove, Atlantic Steamers, Sea Cliff, Carle Place, Huntington Manor and the Drone Team from Mineola. The fire was placed under control in just over 1 hour under the direction of 1st Assistant Chief Sauberman. Crews operated for over two hours conducting overhaul in all affected apartments. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Monday, August 25th at 3:06p, the City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a report of flames from the roof at Razzano’s Imports on Glen St. 1st Assistant Chief Valeo [5201] and Chief of Department Grella [5200] were immediately on the road and upon arrival, found active fire in the ceiling of the store and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Engine 523 was first due and stretched the initial line into the building. The fire was quickly knocked down with overhaul conducted by crews on scene. With the assistance of crews from Glenwood, Sea Cliff and Roslyn, the fire was placed under control in under 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Saturday, August 23rd, the Nassau County Firefighters Association held its 2nd Annual Antique Fire Apparatus Muster at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum. Over 20 antique apparatus from both Nassau & Suffolk Counties participated in this years muster. All participating apparatus were judged with various awards given to the best apparatus in their category.

On Saturday, August 23rd, the Emergency Company 1 of the Uniondale Fire Department held a dedication ceremony for the new Ambulance 7511. The new 7511 is a 2025 Type 1 AEV Traumahawk on a Ford F550 Chassis and, in addition to the state-of-the-art EMS equipment, features a full complement of Hurst e-Draulic extrication tools. The dedication ceremony was led by G.R. Germain and began with a Salute to the Flag by Emergency Company Captain Esquivel and a blessing by Deacon Douglas Ferreiro. After brief remarks from local elected officials, Life Member Vincent Celentano christened the new ambulance with a ceremonial champagne break on the front bumper of the ambulance. Before the conclusion of the dedication, Fire Commissioner Morgan presented Chief of Department Hicks with the keys to the new ambulance before Chief Hicks presented Captain Esquivel with the keys. Congratulations to the Department on the new ambulance!

On Thursday, August 21st at approximately 9:25p, the Wantagh Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire at Crabby Amy’s Clam & Oyster Bar on Ocean Ave. 2nd Assistant Chief Krussman [6902] quickly arrived on scene finding heavy fire throughout the 1-story restaurant and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Engine 693 was first due and utilized the deck gun to begin extinguishing the fully involved structure. During operations, fire was found to have extended to at least 5 boats with at least 2 boats breaking free and becoming adrift. The adrift boats were towed into open water by good samaritans and extinguished by Wantagh Marine 31. Back on land, crews continued to extinguish the fire utilizing at least 4 hand lines and 3 tower ladders to extinguish the main body of fire in the building which had mostly collapsed into itself. The fire was placed under control in approximately 1 hour with the assistance of crews from Massapequa, Seaford, North Bellmore, Levittown, and water rescue assets from Merrick and Freeport. All operations were under the direction of 1st Assistant Chief Stevens [6901].
