The International Court of Justice in The Hague has ruled that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories – Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem – are in violation of international law. The landmark ruling called the occupation ‘de facto annexation’ and that not only were the settlements in violation of international law, but also ‘the regime associated with them,’ and ‘in breach of Israel’s obligation to respect the right of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.’

The court ruling is not legally binding (this is the UN, after all), however it will add significant political pressure on an Israeli government already facing a growing international and domestic backlash over the war in Gaza. Just yesterday, the Knesset rejected a resolution proposing the creation of a Palestinian state, however this new ruling will undoubtedly strengthen those calls. The ruling, and the court, has been rejected by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said that ‘the Jewish people are not conquerors in their own land.’ He called the ruling a ‘false decision and said that ‘the legality of Israeli settlement in all the territories of our homeland cannot be disputed.’

NEW DRUG GIVES 100% PROTECTION FROM HIV INFECTION

Russian Today: "A new drug has been shown to be 100% effective in preventing the spread of HIV, according to the first data from a clinical trial. Lenacapavir, which is injected twice a year, stops the virus being transported to a host cell, where it can multiply, by inhibiting its protective protein casing. The first phase 3 double-blind clinical trials undertaken by Gilead Sciences were so successful that they were concluded early, with all participants ultimately being offered lenacapavir. The company is now carrying out trials in six other countries, after which the drug is set to be released globally. The price of two injections will be $42,250 initially, but the aim will be to lower that price."
