Rules and Regulations
entering and participating in the competition
Registration of entry
Entering the competition will by via SoundCloud, where you will create a profile and include details about yourself/your band including links to your page (required) and any further media links which showcase your work: your website, Twitter account, YouTube channel, Vimeo channel, etc. (optional) Only original productions will be considered, no covers or compositions by other artists will be accepted. You will choose one of your songs to showcase on our SoundCloud profile for public voting during the qualifying process to participate as a contestant in the show. Once you have entered the competition, you are committed to participating in the show. Should you be successful in qualifying and go through to the Selections of the show, you will be required to enter into an agreement to perform for as long as you qualify. Electronic Acts can comprise of a musical producer as a solo entrant, or a musical producer of electronic music together with one or more vocalists. Bands can comprise of two or more musicians whose music contains sounds derived from musical instruments. Contestants from any part of South Africa can enter either as a Cape Town contestant or Johannesburg contestant, whichever of the two cities is nearest to your hometown. Johannesburg contestants will be flown to the Cape Town venue and be provided with accommodation for the duration of the competition inclusive of meals. Further information about safety and travelling to Cape Town will be available on our website. Voting Criteria
Judges will award each performance with a score between 1 and 10 based on the following criteria:
• Musical appeal: composition, use of sounds/instruments, execution
• Cultural appeal: genre, music style, raw talent, ability to move audience
• Aesthetic appeal: styling – hair, apparel, the “look”, x-factor
• Originality: innovative sound, composition,
• Commercial appeal: is it trendy or promising to set a new one. A software application will calculate a total percentage per judge and the total of all the judges will be calculated as the overall score. All rights reserved. This competition is only open to South African and it's bordering countries' musicians and artists. Should any of these rules and regulations not be adhered to, or online communication platforms be exploited and/or abused then the creators of CPT vs JHB reserve their right to disqualify you from entering and participating and barring all further activity from these online platforms.
