Is my family cat in pain?

Hi! I’m visiting my parents and they have a family cat. He’s 6, he is kinda sassy so he’s never been super affectionate. But lately I’ve found he sleeps in the basement more (my parents room). It could just be a comfort thing? He used to sleep in my room a lot before I moved out ( 🥺)… I’ve recently been looking into the grimace scale more since I’ve gotten a new kitten since moving out.
My parents say he acts normal but I don’t think they analyze him the way I do… does he look like he’s in pain? Or am I overthinking this?
He is neutered, he got it done when he was around 1 or 2.

OTW to Vet - cat ate and threw up cooked chicken bone

Asha ate a cooked chicken bone my roommate left out around 6 pm and threw up at 5 am. I called the emergency vet then, and they said she'd likely digest it fine but to come in if she threw up or started straining to p**p. Well, she vomited so we're off. She has food allergies and a motility disorder so I was worried about her small intestine as well (the vet knew this ok my call). I want to know how scared I should be.

I'm 29 M, USA, headed to vet now, she's about to turn 4,, spayed female, I have insurance and CareCredit so I'm prepared for such emergencies

HELP my cat is too big for his cat tree

He's about 12.5 pounds; he might be bigger. (He's on GS-441254; he used to be nine or eight pounds before it at 8 months, which is considered underweight for him. I'm not purposely overfeeding him to make him beefy.)

He's just too big. I can't be like other people who can simply pick out a cat tree willy-nilly for their cats because they know they can fit in there. He can take up an entire chair just by lying on his back, and his head would be sticking out and not on the cushion. I can't even find a cat bed without asking myself, "Can my kitten fit in this?"

I don't know what to do. I feel bad whenever he sleeps on the top floor of his cat tree; his head rests against a wall. He's 10 months now, and I know he isn't done growing. Sometimes, when I look at his paws, I question whether he's a cat or a former lab rat.

What can I do? I can't find a tree big enough for him. Even when he was younger, he had this problem.

Why is she losing fur?

I look after a stray who is fed daily, flea treated monthly and doesn’t appear to be in distress or unwell. However she has been losing fur from her backside for months. It doesn’t seem to be food allergies as she doesn’t have itchiness or skin irritation, although she does seem to prefer some brands of cat food over others. Does anyone know why her fur is so sparse at the back?

My cat Spooky keeps going in my closet and scratching at the floor?

So my 16 year old, spayed, female cat Spooky has been going in my closet for the past few months and scratching at the wood floor. I don’t mind because its a closet floor and I cant really see the damage or anything and she seems to enjoy it. I just don’t understand WHY she does it, she has several scratching posts and toys and is almost always glued to my side or my lap where she gets lots of attention. I’m just not really sure what her interest in my closet is and if it could be an indication of an issue? Any advice?

Kitten swollen bottom gum question

Hi there, this is the first time I’ve had a kitten and I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose why his gums are a little swollen. He’s about 9 weeks old and has been doing well with my other two adult cats. From what I have seen online it could be anything from slight trauma from playing really hard (which he does with my 3 year old cat) or it could be something much more serious. He’s been eating and drinking exclusively out of ceramic bowels so I don’t think it’s an allergic reaction to that. Any help is appreciated!

Are my cats teeth okay?

My cat(3yr old-female) has been doing a weird grinding/chomping sound when she eats, and when i checked her right side she did it again just by me touching her. I noticed some redness on her right side, specifically on the lower tooth that comes after her canine, but im not sure if im just overthinking it or i should be concerned.

Also she lost apetite for her dry food but i recently had problems with it so i thought it could be that.

The noises started last monday/tuesday (15th and 16th) and the loss of apetite this Wednesday. She saw a vet (online though) today, and because she is playful he said to just watch her a few more days and if she doesn’t improve by tuesday, vet time.

Senior cat pulling hair out of neck?

Let me start with she has a vet appointment, just wondered if anyone had any advice on what might be going on? She’s indoor very nervous rescue (we’ve had her almost 7yrs and she’s still skittish) she’s around 12-13 her vets estimated and she is also diabetic. She gets a daily treatment in her food for her diabetes but the past few days we’ve noticed her neck losing fur and sores appear. She was fleaed about 3 1/2wks ago (tablet in food) and has ear clean/drops and nails clipped once a month also as she’s never been good at grooming. Her nails and ears were done 3 days ago where we put a tea tree based cream on to help the sores but it’s not improved.

Increased crying from 10yr old cats

Over the last year I’ve noticed some behavioral changes with my 10 year old cats that are contributing to more crying from them and a serious lack of sleep for me. I’d love some advice for how to address these changes.

Background on each cat (I adopted them at the same time 10 years ago but they aren’t siblings):

The boy is ~14lbs, always been food motivated / focused. Play style is much more of a lay down and watch a string and bat at it a few times, maybe chase it around a bit but more of a watcher than an active player. Still likes active attention / being involved / cuddling up with me. Not overweight but shouldn’t gain any more.

The girl is ~8lbs, always eats her food but doesn’t ever cry for it. More focused on play and loves to chase mice toys and run around. Attention needy and always wants to be laying on me. Definitely the dominant one. Not overweight but shouldn’t gain any more.

Feeding routine I’ve stuck to for the last 10 years has been 1 can of wet food split in two bowls ~7-8am, 1 can of wet food split in two bowls ~530pm, dry food here and there in the evenings (never really measured out how much).

What’s changed:

Over the last ~year the boy cat has increasingly moved up the time he is crying for breakfast from 7 to 5am on average. I started giving in and feeding him then and getting back into bed.

This worked until a few months ago when he started to cry again after he finishes eating, so now we pretty much battle it out from the hours of 5-8am where he is crying off and on and I’m constantly getting in and out of bed.

Girl cat has always slept in bed with me, usual routine was to hang around and wait until I’m in bed with the lights off and then hopping in with me a few minutes later. New routine is to cry for me to call her once the lights are out before she gets in. She may come and go a few times in the first hour or so I’m in bed, used to do it with no noise and now cries each time for me to call her before hopping in (often waking me up each time if I’ve already fallen asleep).

Some other notes:

I had them both at the vet recently and nothing came up in their exams or blood work. Vet suggested changing the diet to something easier to digest so just recently started prescription wet and dry food. They seem to like it and are eating it all.

We live in an apartment building and moved last Nov to a new apartment, there is some more hallway noise / a dog across the hall that barks on occasion, but we are back facing and don’t have any street noise and the apartment is quiet for the most part. They’ve lived in apartment buildings their whole lives (this is the 5th building).

I work from home most days and they are often with me and napping by my desk.

I ordered two automatic dry food feeders (for the first time, I’ve never used these), but they haven’t arrived yet. Would love any tips for how to successfully introduce these.

I would really appreciate any advice or tips for how to handle this. For the first time I’m feeling like I’m not in tune with what is going on with them. I also feel like I’ve totally lost control of the situation (and I really miss sleeping through a full night).

Throwing up and losing weight

My (F23/UK) beautiful Baxter (M15) has been getting steadily more unwell over the last few months.

For the last 6 weeks Baxter has thrown up his food nearly every night (past 12am) then gone back to sleep. He has become very underweight, although his abdomen is slightly distended. He has also become quite “lazy” and lethargic, though that could be attributed to his age.

Baxter has always had a voracious appetite and this has been unaffected, often immediately asking for food after throwing up.

These symptoms have been present since June but have become severe more recently (ie throwing up once a week to throwing up every night).

I took Baxter to the vet at the start of May and he had an operation to remove several teeth and recovered well. At this time the vet gave him a full blood work up and it came back clear.
I took him to the vet again 3 weeks ago as I was so worried, and she gave him a full examination. Aside from being very underweight she said there was nothing obviously wrong with him. I asked for a second opinion and 2 other vets at the clinic came to the same conclusion. They offered another full blood work up which came back completely clear.
Their suggestion was a chicken intolerance, so I cut chicken from his diet. Nothing has changed. They have no other suggestions.

I’m so desperate to find out what’s bothering my Baxter; I can’t stand the thought of him suffering. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? :(
