‎Makati Science High School (MakSci) conducted its first School-Based Press Conference (SBPC) on September 19, 2025, from 2:30 to 5:00 P.M., spearheaded by The Makati Science Vision together with the English Club and Sports Club, with the theme, “From the Campus to the World: The Journey to Veracity Amidst Adversity.”

‎The event kicked off with opening remarks from Dr. Owen Ombid and Ms. Darish Gamit, followed by an inspiring keynote speech delivered by Era Cassandra Buensuceso, a proud MakSci alumna and accomplished writer.
‎
‎Buensuceso reflected on her roots, saying she “learned to love writing from MakSci.”
‎
‎She reminded participants that journalism is more than just putting words on paper, it is a responsibility.

“To write is to wield influence,” she stated, “and to influence is a privilege and every privilege demands responsibility.”
‎
‎She then gave a reminder for aspiring journalists: “The journey to the truth will never be easy, but always necessary, because with every story you write, you shall uncover, and with every voice, you shall amplify.”

‎After the keynote address, the program proceeded to the competition.

Participants who score 75% or higher will qualify as members of The Vision staff for SY 2025-2026, while the top scorer in each category will represent MakSci in the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) 2025.

‎The Top 5 scorers per category will be announced on September 29, 2025.

𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 | 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗦𝗰𝗶 𝗬𝗘𝗦-𝗢 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 “𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗮 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻: 𝗚𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻” 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗬 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 - 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

The Makati Science High School Youth for Environment in Schools – Organization (MakSci YES-O) officially launched the first session of its “Grow a Garden: Gulayan sa Paaralan” program for School Year 2025 - 2026 on September 18 - 19 at the school garden and feeding room.

On the second day, September 19, YES-O members from Grades 9, 10, and 12 participated in a planting activity facilitated by YES-O officers, Science teacher Ms. Angela Abad, and Housekeeping personnel Ms. Marilou E. Retaga, who manages the school garden.

Students were taught basic gardening techniques and planted sitaw, pechay, and mustasa, which will be used to supplement the school’s feeding program once harvested.

Reflecting on the activity, Ms. Retaga noted its benefits for the students, saying:
“Opo, sobra. Natuto kayong magtanim, naka-relax kayo, tapos iba yung environment dito—kasi diba, palagi kayong nasa classroom? Tapos ‘pag na-harvest na po yung tinanim niyo, magagamit din po doon sa feeding (program).”

YES-O member Neo Eli Millares also expressed his appreciation for the initiative, highlighting the importance of the hands-on experience.

“The activity was not only useful but also fun, so yes, I would participate again,” he shared.

The activity concluded with a simple 'meryenda' for the participants following the planting and clean-up.

Meanwhile, due to unfavorable weather conditions on the first day, students from Grades 7, 8, and 11 were unable to participate in the gardening session. Instead, the school canteen staff prepared meals, and their planting activity will be rescheduled to a later date.

Through the “Grow a Garden: Gulayan sa Paaralan” project, MakSci YES-O aims to promote sustainable gardening, encourage teamwork and responsibility among students, and provide fresh, homegrown produce to support the school feeding program.

💬Frequently asked questions (FAQs) for the upcoming School-Based Press Conference (SBPC).

📌Where & When: September 19 (Friday) Makati Science High School (MSHS) Grounds, 2:30 - 5:00 PM.

📌The SBPC serves two purposes:
1. MSHS Vision Member Auditions. Participants who score 75% or higher will become official members of their chosen category.
2. MSHS Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) Representation. The top scorer in each category will represent the MSHS in the DSPC 2025. The Top 5 in each category will be announced on September 29 (Monday).

👉 A Messenger Group Chat has been created for SBPC participants who have filled out the Google Forms.
👉 Deadline for Consent Forms: September 18, 1:00 PM. Students who fail to submit their consent forms will NOT BE ALLOWED to participate.

𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 | 𝗗𝗿. 𝗢𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗢𝗦𝗔 𝗦𝗬 '𝟮𝟱-'𝟮𝟲

Makati Science High School (MakSci) Principal Dr. Owen Ombid delivered the First Quarter State of the School Address (SOSA) of the School Year (SY) 2025 - 2026 at the ground floor on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

The event presented the school's progress in access, quality, and governance, along with upcoming programs and projects designed to address the needs of its stakeholders.

Assistant Principal Edwin Engana welcomed the event as a chance to showcase progress and to “listen, share ideas, and strengthen partnerships.”

During the SOSA, Dr. Ombid reported that lower performance indicators in the access sector, which included promotion, retention rates, and higher dropouts, correlated with personal reasons and student migration.

The school is reportedly “proficient” in quality and governance, with a 75% to 80% Mean Percentage Score (MPS) in the quarterly exam, along with an adequate ratio of school facilities to students.

He also highlighted the achievements of the school in various competitions, along with upcoming programs such as the Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OKD).

“Napakaraming achievements ng MakSci,” Dr. Ombid emphasized, “not because of us, but because of the whole stakeholders who are part of the organization.”

School-Parent Teacher Association (SPTA) President Christina Cacnio also underlined their accomplishments, including the Friday mass and values formation program, the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) anti-dengue campaign, the Legacy Scholarship Project, and other initiatives featured on the SPTA website.

Closing the SOSA, Science and Technology Head Teacher Michelle Yakit summarized the event and urged continued participation and collaboration from all stakeholders.

The SOSA serves as the school’s annual report on performance, achievements, and plans, and will next be held in the third quarter.
