My sister-in-law forbade me from attending her wedding because she said I was poor… But when her boyfriend saw me, he suddenly bowed down and called me by a name that shook my entire husband’s family. I’ve been married for two years. My husband’s family has three siblings — and he’s the youngest. Their eldest daughter, Ate Hanh, is known throughout the family as a talkative, conceited, and boastful person. Ever since I married her brother, she’s always looked down on me — and she doesn’t even hide it. I come from the countryside, the daughter of a farmer. I learned to stand on my own two feet when I was young. After graduating from college, I tried to work in the field of interior design. I gradually built my own company. But because of my simplicity, I never showed it off — not even to my husband’s family. In their eyes, I was just a “province girl who was lucky enough to marry a rich man.” Ate Hanh often hit me: “I don’t know how lucky that woman is to marry my brother. Now, as long as she knows how to cook, she can get married — money? Well, definitely not!” I just smiled. I didn’t need to prove myself to them. But life is real, it loves to take turns — and the day of “re:tri:bution” came sooner than I thought for her. One weekend morning, the whole family was busy — Ate Hanh was getting married! Her fiancé, a man who works in the field of architecture and construction — they said, “has a name” in the industry. My mother-in-law was happy, she even told me: “Get your pretty dress ready, huh? Tomorrow, you’ll be with us to introduce him to the man’s family.” I nodded. But before I could answer, Ate Hanh came out, her arms folded, and her voice cold: “You don’t have to come. My fiancé’s family is all wealthy. You might have a hard time socializing, it’s embarrassing.” I stopped. My husband frowned: “Sister, what are you talking about? She’s my wife, she’s part of our family!” But Ate Hanh showed no sign of concern. “You don’t understand. On occasions like this, image is important! What if they find out that my sister-in-law is just from the provinces, and she’s still dressed simply? That’s embarrassing.” I just kept quiet. Not because I was embarrassed, but because I didn’t want to argue. I smiled softly: “It’s okay, Ate. I just hope you’re happy. I won’t go.” But sometimes, fate has a way of making arrogant people understand what a person’s true worth is. The wedding day arrived. Even though she forbade it, I still went — not to show off, but to sincerely congratulate her. I was wearing a simple but elegant white dress. When I arrived at the hall, Ate Hanh saw me — and her eyes suddenly widened. “Why are you here? Didn’t I tell you you didn’t have to come?” I smiled. “Sister, I’m just here to congratulate. I don’t have any bad intentions.” She frowned. “It’s up to you, as long as you don’t embarrass our family.” I remained silent, still smiling. A moment later, the groom arrived — dressed in a well-groomed suit. But when our eyes met, it felt like cold water had been poured on him. He stopped, and the glass of wine he was holding fell to the floor and shattered. His voice trembled as he slowly said:...... (To be continued in the comments 👇)
