After a day and a half in Copenhagen, we flew by way of Oslo, Norway to Longyearbyen, on the archipelago of Svalbard. Like us, you may be asking "Where the heck is Svalbard?". To answer that pressing question, below is a photo of an excellent map found at the North Pole Expeditions Museum in Longyearbyen. I've cropped it and added some annotations for context....

A trip to the Fargo, North Dakota area (or NODAK as we say!) meant a short drive to beautiful Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and a quest to find more trolls created by Thomas Dambo and his team. Listed as numbers 130-135 on his website (that's a lot of trolls), the five trolls and the golden rabbit (and numerous bird houses) are spread in and around the city of Detroit Lakes....

Finished in March 2024, Malin's Fountain is an 18 foot tall troll made of recycled materials resting in Pease Park in Austin. She can be found just north of the bird's nest structure in the woods, and, if you run the trail south to north, can be seen from the trail. Most of Dambo's trolls appear to have a back story and, to some extent, a purpose....
