A breath
Brushes across
Ashes,
Stirring life
Into coals.

In the darkness,
A spark.
Catches.
It leaps,
Pulsating like
Distant hoofbeats,
And awakens the deep.

The Phoenix stirs,
Her wings smolder.
Coils of silver smoke
Spiral, undulating.
She whispers.
Her voice
Raspy. Ragged.

Flames
Fracture the
Blackness.
Molten,
Untamed,
Surging, undulating
Into now.

I
Am
Fire.
