When drivers complain about vibration noise or shudder under load, the CV axle often takes the blame. It’s a logical assumption. After all, CV axles are among the most common wear components in the driveline, but sometimes the real issue lies deeper: the intermediate shaft.

If the circuit is compromised by an open or short, the increased or decreased resistance will cause the voltage to drop or exceed specifications. If the readings from the bias voltage tests are correct, the module provides voltage to the circuit for operation. If the readings are not in the predicted range, the module will not supply power, and will set a code and deactivate the ABS and stability control systems.

Read more about ABS stability control sensors in our story:

ABS or stability control systems in your car need to know a lot of information to carry out a correction.

A shock or strut only has control over compression and rebound. But by controlling these two items, the suspension can control the contact patch of the tire as well as the attitude of the body under many different conditions.

As we enter the winter months in the snow belt ❄️ , most technicians know that they can expect to encounter many vehicles that have become victims of a curb strike or a pothole. What usually prompts the customer to bring it to a shop is an off-center steering wheel, pulling or a tire that has been knocked off the rim.

However, there are also the winter hits that contribute to a poor alignment angle. This customer will visit you in late March or early May, complaining that their tires are worn out or one tire has suddenly failed because the inner or outer edge has worn through.

How much oil consumption is too much? Drivers, technicians, and even engineers have all struggled with that question, because oil consumption is a critical metric for the health of the engine.

How much oil goes through every thousand miles is critical, because that oil that either makes it past the piston rings or through the intake valve, thanks to the positive current case ventilation system, has to end up somewhere. It can burn and then cause carbon deposits inside the combustion chamber, or it could even poison and contaminate the catalytic converter.

You may go through some inspection forms that say a torn or ripped boot on a ball joint or tie rod end is grounds for replacement of the entire unit. What’s the reason for this? It may look perfectly fine, there may be no play, but what we’re talking about is the integrity of the joint and the internal surfaces.
