Juvenile Squid 🐙
A juvenile squid is basically a baby squid — the stage after it hatches from an egg but before it becomes a fully mature adult.

Key things about juvenile squid:
Life stage • Hatchling → Juvenile → Adult. Squid hatch as tiny, fully-formed versions of adults called paralarvae. After a few weeks of rapid growth, they’re considered juveniles. • They look like miniature adults but aren’t sexually mature yet. Most species spend only a few months as juveniles because squid grow fast and live short lives — many species only live ∼1 year total.

That’s not actually a true shark — it’s a wedgefish, also called a shovelnose ray or guitarfish. They’re part of the ray family, but get called “shark” a lot because of the body shape.

Important note: Wedgefish are critically endangered globally. In the Philippines, many elasmobranchs are protected under Fisheries Administrative Order 193. They’re highly vulnerable to overfishing because they’re valued for their fins.

They’re harmless to humans — they eat crabs, shrimp, and small fish on the seafloor using that pointy snout to dig.
