I've given much thought to EVERYWOMAN'S HOUR, our KQBM Blue Mountain Community Radio Broadcast, which was programmed with prerecorded Interviews, with Women Making a Difference, in their Communities in the Mother Lode.
We're aired on Wednesdays from 12 to 1PM, with a repeat Broadcast on Saturdays from 11 to 12; and, have archived both in Archive.org and in everywomanshour.org (also as a link to Amador County Historical Society web page, under Living History): since Fall of 2013.
Well over two hundred and fifty Women have been Interviewed and Archived, from Amador County, and Calaveras County.
I am thinking, seriously of retiring this Broadcast on KQBM.
I've been unable to persuade (or even cajole!) any other Woman to learn, and then, 'take over' this Work! It is, indeed, quite a patient process: to interest and acquire an Interviewee, for a least a couple, if not, and rarely, all four, weeks of every month: to be Interviewed. Many Women have been so gracious and have given the travel time, Interview Time, and process time, to be part of the Everywoman's Hour Cadre of Women dedicated to contributing to their Communities!
This process, alone, takes up to five hours a week.
Then, going in to the Station, to air the Interview correctly for its Live Broadcast, with my Tech Guy's (Den's) Constant devotion to this process: another few hours, each Wednesday. Then! Den archived the work correctly, both for everywomanshour.org and for KQBM Programming.
I also continued promoting the Program, KQBM, and the Archives, for a couple of hours a week.
This work involved the two of us, for at least eight to a dozen hours a week, for the last six-plus years. during which time, we had almost constant health challenges!
I'm not complaining by the by. I'm just saying!
Den and I really LOVE Everywoman's Hour! Really! Still...
At 75 years of age, I am, truly not sure I have this sort of stamina, for this particular Work!
More importantly, it is truly TIME for a new Interviewer! And, with much work to encourage this (through co-hosting accomplished in many interviews): I have No Takers for this Work as it is, for reasons that All may imagine, correctly, given the constant Work involved!
Also, My Calaveras Connection, that kept my Interviews proceeding actively and professionally for all concerned, that is, Manzanita Arts Emporium, with Monika Rose, is closing, as of the end of this month of May. I am so thankful for Monika's constant support of Everywoman's Hour, for several years, now!
Also, my efforts to recruit more Interviewees from Amador is no longer as actively engaged as it had been, because 2/3 of those interviewed already, are from Amador, and the other Women I've been contacting, all last fall and winter, have been less willing to come, even when interested in the concept...
No fault on their part, just the way it has been!
Of course, Covid-19 Times have distanced me and them from the microphone, anyway, so that' been a variable, as well!
And So, I'm pondering my Next Activity around Everywoman's Hour.
I'm thinking of moving on to Recording ORAL HISTORIES, for the population of Amador, first, and then, perhaps, Calaveras County, on a Personal Basis, with a small fee for my Experienced Services: which the Clients may keep private, or add to a New Section, in everywomanshour.org, which would then be archived also for the Amador Historical Society.
This would be a Private Service for Community, not a Volunteer Broadcaster's Service on KQBM.
I'll need to meet with Catherine Lambie, Director of KQBM Board, and the Board. about this move, I reckon, and iron out any wrinkles in this design. I expect they will be gracious and accommodating for me, as they ever, every time, have been.
I am so Thankful for KQBM Community Radio. This Station is a Real Gift for our Mother Lode, which All should appreciate and support, in every way!
I'm confident that my Work for everywomanshour.org, will proceed Well, in this new direction. Every thing under the sun changes, and this change has come, I do believe!
I will ever be thankful to KQBM and to the Women of Amador and Calaveras Counties, for their Incredible Support, Work, and Actual Devotion to making Everywoman's Hour the True Success and Wonderful Contribution They have all made, to the Community of Women's Work, in our Mother Lode!
You are ALL, All the 'Gold' there has ever been!
