THERAPEUTIC POWER OF THE BEACH

Studies have shown that exposure to natural environments, especially listening to water sounds, such as waves or flowing rivers, can trigger the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, which are associated with pleasure and mood regulation. This effect is attributed to how these settings activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and decreasing stress hormone production.

The sound of waves crashing onto the shore creates a unique auditory pattern that can induce "relaxation response." This response is the opposite of the stress-induced "fight or flight" reaction and is characterized by decreased heart rate, lowered blood pressure, and reduced muscle tension.

One fascinating aspect of beach therapy is the abundance of negative ions near the shoreline. Negative ions are charged particles found in nature, believed to positively impact mood and overall mental health. The crashing waves and sea breeze are natural generators of negative ions, providing us with an additional reason to seek solace by the sea.
Beach therapy isn't just a leisure activity; it's a scientifically supported strategy for boosting mental resilience and nurturing our overall well-being.

NIGERIAN IMMIGRATION PROBES WOMAN FOR DESTROYING HUSBAND'S PASSPORT AT LAGOS AIRPORT

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has called for an investigation into an event at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, where a woman was filmed tearing a Nigerian passport.

According to local media reports, the woman identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, was seen in the video confessing to damaging the passport, reportedly belonging to her husband. Despite her admission, the airport officials did not take any action but allowed her to leave with her two children.

NIS spokesperson Kenneth Udo confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, August 11, adding that the Comptroller General of Immigration, K.N. Nandap, had ordered Mrs. Igiebor to be summoned for further investigation.

The NIS stated that if the allegations are confirmed, her actions would violate the Immigration Act 2015, which could lead to legal consequences. The agency emphasized its commitment to upholding the law and maintaining national security.

According to the law, the deliberate destruction of a passport is a serious offence, which is clearly stated in the Immigration Act 2015, specifically under Section 10(b).The law clearly states that any act contrary to this act can result in penalties, including fines, imprisonment, or both. The specific penalties are outlined under Section 10(h) of the Act, which details the consequences of such offences. And if found guilty of destroying a passport, they may face legal action, which could include being fined, imprisoned, or subject to other legal penalties as determined by a court of law.

An unidentified woman is reportedly in coma after a soldier slapped her at Banex area, Wuse 2 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The soldier is among those deployed to guard the Banex Plaza, which was shut after a clash between some military personnel and the trader. The lady incurred the wrath of the soldier yesterday when she trekked on the barricaded road where she was stopped by soldiers.

It was learnt that when she was being interrogated by the soldiers, one of them slapped her and she collapsed. She was reportedly rushed into a van which sped off the scene. It is, however, unclear if she was being taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, traders are still counting their losses over the attack by the soldiers and the closure of the plaza, which is the hub of phones, computers and other accessories in Abuja.

Trouble started at Banex after a trader refused to collect a bad phone sold to a young man who invited two soldiers but were beaten up by some traders.Although the police stepped in to resolve the situation, the soldiers returned to the plaza and forced the traders to shut it down.

However, some videos on social media showed the soldiers chasing a crowd and punishing a few others. And the Nigerian Army has remained silent on the matter.

DUCHESS OF SUSSEX,NAMED IFEOMA,EMBRACES NIGERIAN ROOT

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has said it’s been “humbling” to find out through a genealogy test that she is partly Nigerian as she met with women in the West African nation on Saturday 11 May,2024.

Meghan on her second day in Nigeria, where she is visiting for the first time with Prince Harry to promote mental health for wounded soldiers and young girls, acknowledged Nigeria as “my country.”adding that,“It’s been eye-opening to be able to know more about my heritage.”

“Never in a million years would I understand it as much as I do now. And what has been echoed so much in the past day is, ’Oh, we are not so surprised when we found out you are Nigerian,” she said at the event on women in leadership co-hosted by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a Nigerian economist and head of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Duchess of Sussex had announced on her podcast in October 2022 that she found out through the DNA-based test that she was “43% Nigerian.”

Her first reaction after finding out was to tell her mother, she said at the event in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja. “Being African American, part of it is really not knowing so much about your lineage and background … and it was exciting for both of us,”because what they define as a Nigerian woman is brave, resilient, courageous, beautiful,” Meghan told the audience.

Mo Abudu, the anchor and chief executive of EbonyLife media group, then asked the audience to suggest a Nigerian name for Meghan.

“Ifeoma,” someone shouted from the excited crowd, a name from Nigeria’s Igbo tribe which means ‘a treasured thing.’ “Omowale” another suggested, from the Yoruba tribe, which means ‘the child has come home.’ and Edidiong which means ‘blessing’.

Meghan joined female industry leaders such as Okonjo-Iweala to discuss the importance of mentorship for young women and the career challenges women face in in a country like Nigeria, where it is not common for women to be in top leadership and political positions.
