Egypt has signed three cooperation agreements with Djibouti covering maritime transport, logistics, and renewable energy, as part of broader efforts to deepen economic and trade ties between the two countries, according to a cabinet statement.

The agreements were signed during an official visit by Kamel El-Wazir, Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Transport and Deputy Prime Minister, to the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA).

The Suez Canal Authority has signed the executive agreement for a grant-funded project provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), valued at $22 million (approximately EGP 1 billion), to finance the construction and supply of a Diving Support Vessel (DSV).

Under the agreement, JICA will provide a grant to fund the building and delivery of the diving support vessel to the Suez Canal Authority.

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has decided to reduce the overnight deposit rate, overnight lending rate, and the main operation rate by 100 basis points, bringing them to 20.00%, 21.00%, and 20.50%, respectively. Additionally, the discount rate has been lowered to 20.50.

This decision is based on the Committee’s updated evaluation of inflation trends and its revised outlook since the last MPC meeting.

Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, pointed out that Egypt’s private sector has received concessional funding amounting to $2.8 billion in the current year from development partners, bringing the total funding received since 2020 to approximately $17 billion.

In a meeting with members of Sanate Foreign Relations Committee, she noted that banks and financial institutions are the largest recipients of financing, accounting for 41.4% of the total, through credit lines that are re-lent to the private sector in Egypt.

Cairo International Airport welcomed approximately 30.94 million passengers in 2025, marking a growth rate of 6.8% compared to 28.97 million passengers in 2024.

This growth aligns with the Ministry of Civil Aviation's plan to enhance operational efficiency and improve the level of services provided to travelers.

The Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority (SCZone) has signed contracts for the establishment of three major industrial projects within the scope of the industrial developer Teda-Egypt in the industrial zone of Sokhna, with investments totaling approximately $1.2 billion.

The first contract was signed with the Chinese group Shen Feng Ming and includes the establishment of an integrated complex for polyester fibers and polymers production, with investments exceeding $800 million, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office.

This follows the full return of ships from the French CMA CGM group.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced that it had reached a staff-level agreement with Egypt for the fifth and sixth reviews under its Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement.

This agreement could potentially unlock a $2.5 billion disbursement under the program.

The value of non-oil exports increased by 18.4%, reaching $44.4 billion during the period from January to November 2025, compared to $37.5 billion during the same period in 2024, according to infographics released by the Egyptian Cabinet.

This growth contributed to a reduction in the trade deficit by 11.9%, falling to $30.3 billion from January to November 2025, compared to $34.4 billion during the same period in 2024.

The Suez Canal Authority has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Anchorage Investments to establish an integrated petrochemical complex on land owned by the authority in the Ain Sokhna area, northwest of the Gulf of Suez, within the scope of the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The petrochemical complex aims, in its first phase, to produce polypropylene (PP) as a main product, relying on propane as raw material, in addition to hydrogen as a by-product, with total investments exceeding $2 billion.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed a focus on increasing foreign currency reserves and meeting the necessary funding requirements to enhance development efforts.

During a meeting held on Sunday, the President was briefed by Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdullah, and Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk on the indicators related to strengthening the country's foreign currency reserves.
