Dem bones....

Southern Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis giraffa). Crocodile Bridge, Kruger National Park, South Africa.

An example of osteophagy in Giraffes. From Wiki:

Giraffes rely solely on browsing to maintain their diet, which consists primarily of leafy material. However, they are commonly observed supplementing their diet with bones.

Although the exact purpose of this behavior is unknown, it is hypothesized that the ingestion of bones serves as an additional source of calcium and phosphorus. While leaves usually serve as a sufficient source of these nutrients, calcium and phosphorus concentrations in the leaves vary seasonally with rainfall; the giraffes' osteophagic behavior has been observed to parallel this variance in mineral concentration.

A Cape Buffalo sleeping within the herd as they rest on a hot, sunny afternoon. Meanwhile, a Red-billed Oxpecker bird is taking advantage and searching for tics in his ear.

Out looking for a known pride of lions in an area of the Southern Kruger National Park, I'd pulled onto a low bridge crossing and started scanning the river banks. I was completely oblivious to the fact I'd stopped right next to this lady so had quite a startle when I noticed her about 2m away! So close I could hear her drinking.

Taken on foot. Whilst he will see me as a predator, his curiosity will ensure he stands firm whilst he assesses the threat that I may pose to him. I always find it very special to stand on equal footing with an animal in the wild.
