Agon: Albright's Literary Magazine Agon: A Magazine for Creative Expression Agon: a conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist in a work of literature. A test of will.

The root of the word "agony." Anyone who's ever pitted pen against paper can understand this name. Writing's not easy, but it's not supposed to be. That's why "Agon" is the perfect name for this group of creative writers. Anyone who's ever faced the agony of getting an idea from the caves of your brain onto a naked sheet of paper knows this agony. But in the end, when you can look over those rows

of beautiful character development, or let those euphonious stanzas fall from your lips, it's totally worth it. In the end, it's the agony that is beautiful.

It's February!!! Agon is celebrating Black History Month by highlighting black writers and poets. This week's writer is bell hooks.
Gloria Jean Watkins is a scholar and activist whose work examined the interconnections between race, class and gender.

Fun fact: Her pen name honors her great-grandmother. She spells it in lower case so that the focus would be on her message rather than her work.
