We sat down with the legendary Chuck Burgi—the powerhouse drummer you've seen with Billy Joel for the last 12 years.
But his resume is a "who's who" of music: Rainbow, Meatloaf, Bon Jovi, Hall & Oates, and his own band, Tokyo Motor Fist.
The story of how he got his start is pure rock and roll magic.
Chuck told us he was "heading towards a life of a juvenile delinquent" until The Beatles on Ed Sullivan changed his life. His first major influence? A local high schooler... named Joe Walsh.
Joe and his band used to jam at Chuck's parents' house. Even after The James Gang got big, Joe would come home on Thanksgiving, jam with Chuck's high school band, and show his guitarists how to play the songs right. Chuck saw his hero making it and thought, "If Joe can do it, I can do it."
But the incredible connections don't stop there:
➡️ The Allman Brothers: Right after high school, Chuck got the chance to sit in with the Allman Brothers and literally took Butch Trucks' place for a jam. He knew right then he had to quit college and become a musician.
➡️ Bob Marley: The guitarist from Chuck's own high school band (Al Anderson) took his advice and moved to England. He ended up joining Bob Marley & The Wailers and played on the iconic Exodus and Natty Dread albums.
