Last year I had the absolute privilege of meeting Pete Robinson at his North Shields office. He showed me his work and I was completely blown away — the way he captures the life, history, and people of our fishing community is like nothing else. Since then, I’ve been a true fan.

This week Pete gifted me his book, Harvest from the Deep — and honestly, it means the world. A beautiful hardback (124 pages, A4), it tells the story of the fishing industry with so much heart and respect. Pete, you are my hero. Thank you for everything you do for North Shields and for shining such a powerful light on our community. 🙌

👉 Go and see his exhibition Harvest from the Deep at the Old Low Light Heritage Centre, North Shields Fish Quay, 22 July – 30 August 2025.
👉 You can buy the book for £15 (collection in North Shields) or £21 (posted) through Eye of the Tyne Photography.

🚨 Pub news for North Shields! 🍻

The Bell & Bucket on Norfolk Street is getting a brand-new chapter. Once a cosy one-room pub famous for its live music, open-mic nights, Sunday lunches and seafaring décor, it closed its doors back in 2019.

Now, after years of waiting, work is underway to bring it back to life — a pub downstairs with flats above. 🏠✨

From its days as part of the old fire station and police premises to its time as a much-loved local.

North Shields is on the rise everyone, if you are thinking of investing in our town, now is the time to do it! Mark my words it will only get better. 😄

Since our last issue back in May, so much has happened — and we’ve pulled it all together into a 64-page magazine that’s both a snapshot of today and a keepsake for the future.

The cover? Chosen by the ILNS Photography Collective on our photowalk — Headstand Mike front and centre captured by Diane Wailes, because this magazine is made by the people, for the people.

We’ve worked with around 50 volunteers to make this happen, and what we’ve achieved together for Shields is absolutely amazing. 💙 A full list of everyone involved is listed in the magazine 🌞it's a collective effort that makes all our issues extra awesome.
