From advocating for trail access and expanding safety programs to advancing ORV tourism, her tenure has helped strengthen the voice of the province's riding community.

Some riders grow up on the seat of a bike. Others find their way to it later in life—and sometimes that makes all the difference. Cindy Young didn’t come from a motorsports background, and she didn’t follow a traditional path into riding. Instead, she built her skills from the ground up, starting with quadding and snowmobiling before discovering motorcycles at 45. What began as curiosity quickly turned into commitment, and eventually, a complete shift in direction that would reshape both her career and her lifestyle.

The action-packed weekend features an OHV Rally, Poker Ride and 50/50 draw hosted by the Kootenay Rockies ATV Club, plus smoky eats from Smokehouse 93 and live music from local band Rivertown.

Whether you’re hitting the trails or just coming for the atmosphere, there’s something for everyone—and even better, all proceeds from Saturday’s rider registration will support Search & Rescue.

ATV riders, campers and outdoor adventurers—the Prairies to Peaks ATV Rally returns May 14–18 at the scenic Ghost Airstrip campground northwest of Cochrane, Alberta.

Set alongside Waiparous Creek, the five-day gathering features camping, guided and self-guided rides, nightly community campfires and plenty of off-road adventure in Alberta’s backcountry.

The private 20-acre campground includes a heated event tent, cook shack, firewood, outhouses and easy access to the Ghost PLUZ trail network. Riders are reminded to arrive prepared with valid registration, insurance and proper safety gear, including helmets.

Camping spots are first come, first served, so groups hoping to camp together should plan to arrive together.

EmaLee Rains grew up riding, stepped away for years, and then found her way back to the trail—and to herself. What started as one decision turned into something much bigger: 4 Wheels North, a growing community built around riding, connection, and showing up for each other at every level. From muddy backcountry runs in Ontario to finding her crew through social media, her story is a reminder that it’s never too late to get back to what you love.

In a concerning trend, a growing number of single-rider ATVs (1-up) are being ridden with a passenger, which is not how the machines were meant to be operated. Besides the inherent danger that comes with operating a vehicle in a manner that it wasn’t designed to be driven, there’s also the possibility of having the insurance voided should a claim need to be made.

To clear up the confusion, we interviewed Kristin Parsons, executive director of ATVBC, as well as Wayne Daub, general manager of the Canadian Quad Council & Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (CQC).
