This is from 2013 from my ESPNHawaii radio show. Two of my favorite people on the show. My big brother Max Gail who played Bert Shotten, Jackie Robinson's major league manager with the Brooklyn Dodgers. in the movie "42" about Jackie Robinson. Chadwick Boseman played Jackie Robinson. I always enjoy talking with Max.

The other guest is my long-time friend Jack Berry, recipient of the PGA Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism and member of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame. Jack wrote for the Detroit News for many years and Michigan Golfer. He has covered 43 Masters and shares some wonderful stories about the Masters and many milestone sporting events. When I was an aspiring golfer, Jack was very supportive. I always enjoy talking with Jack too.

I feel sharing some of the past shows tells you a little bit more about me and what I have been doing over the years ... Having found my way into sports and community broadcasting in my own way is, in hindsight, a story in itself I am going to keep sharing.

I love using Talk Story in expressing my storytelling .
My radio and TV shows were Emily T Gail Talk Story and my You Tube station is Emily T Gail Talk Story. Also my podcast is called Emily T Gail Talk Story.

"Talk story" in Hawaii is a cherished cultural tradition of leisurely conversation, storytelling, and connecting with others, rooted in Hawaiian Pidgin and oral history. It goes beyond small talk, functioning as a way to share wisdom, strengthen community ties, build relationships, and reminisce about the past.

Key aspects of "talk story" include:
Purpose: It is a way to build rapport, share memories, express Aloha, and pass down community history.
Context: It is often informal, occurring in social gatherings, at the beach, or when meeting with friends and neighbors.
Usage Examples: It is often used to mean chatting, catching up, gossiping, or chatting, such as saying "Come over and talk story," or "I was talking story with him for hours".
: It is often referred to as "shooting the breeze," "chatting," "sharing," or informally "hanging out.

Tips for Experiencing "Talk Story"
Slow Down: Talk story is not a rushed conversation; it is meant for taking time and making real connections.

I thought I was starting to pack up my life with moving home to Detroit, my intention. Instead, I've been rediscovering my life. I didn’t plan to share this recording when I started it. I usually do most of my journaling with Voice Memos. However, the other day I opened my podcast microphone for the first time in a long while. I was simply testing a new recording feature on Podomatic, where I keep many of my shows from when I had the Emily T Gail Show on the ESPNHawaii affiliate over 10 years ago. Since then, I have created some shows; however, lately, I have had a strong sense that I have some stories I would enjoy sharing.
So when I saw that Podomatic had a recorder I could use to publish whatever I recorded right away, I thought I'd try it out. Wow. 10-15 years ago, I had to go through a lot of steps to record a show and publish.
So, as I mentioned, the other day I turned on the mic and just started saying what was on my mind. And I am enthused about where I think it might take me in sharing a lot of stories I have never shared about living in Detroit, living in Hawaii, and living life for a long time, thankfully.
Anyway .... just started talking and it felt good. No outline. No script. No intention of publishing it.
Then I listened back.
What I heard was me…thinking out loud. Wandering between the past and the present, Detroit and Hawaiʻi, memories and what’s next. Pretty much how I have always done my broadcasting. Learn what I can about the technology, enough to keep me encouraged about sharing.
So here it is. Consider this a step in my “Unpacking My Stories” as I continue to pack up in ways I had not imagined. I am enthused.

Time to update and catch up and share some Talk Story. So why do I call it Talk Story? I have always loved the meaning of “Talk Story”

I have not created a podcast show for several years. I am enthused that I feel enthused to pick it up and go a whole different direction that I feel in my heart is coming to be naturally. In the meantime, you can get some of my past shows at Emily T Gail Talk Story on Apple or wherever you listen to podcasts.

I originally started my podcast as a place to store past shows from my radio show I had on ESPNHawaii for years back around 2011. The ESPNHAWAII website had a drop down box that said Colin Cowherd, Mike and Mike in the Morning and Emily T Gail Show. I loved that ...felt I was in good company. Listeners could hear my last 6 shows.

I was looking for a way to store my shows as they rotated off the ESPNHAWAII website and discovered this place called podomatic.com and started storing my shows on podomatic. I was self-teaching myself through all of those days to be a broadcaster and host of a show. I had hosted the Community Affairs Show for years on a local station.

When I had the opportunity to so the show with ESPNHAWAII I focused on shaping it the way I wanted to do a show, and credit to Pacific Media Groups, who let me reach for some new ways to do what I was doing.

Probably have 100 or more shows and some pretty good ones.

Going to start posting them. Since the NBA playoffs are happening going to share this Talk Story with Merv Lopes, who was the coach at tiny Chaminade College in Hawaii in 1982 when they defeated the number 1-ranked Virginia and Ralph Simpson. Considered one of the greatest upsets in college golf.

The game was not televised and is one of the reasons ... maybe the reason college basketball was televised so extensively after that.
