Welcome to Pfefferkorn: a countryside studio hidden inside a former 1950s café. The stylish interior stayed, the cake display is gone, but the mountain panorama is still very much in place. Out of this unlikely combination came Obsolescence, Feater’s new album and a record that wasn’t supposed to happen, but insisted on doing so anyway.
Originally, Pfefferkorn hosted a merry-go-round of guests and genres: jazz, kraut, pop, experiments, even the occasional field recording. Among the many, Mara Oldofredi aka Mietze Conte became the most frequent and inspiring visitor. Their sessions set sparks, and one of them, “Trio,” landed directly on the album.

The method? Call it instant archaeology: live jams on two-track tape, then pushed through edits, resampling, Fairlight IIX sorcery, and endless tape-laptop relays. Quick, raw, and without too much overthinking, more sketch than sculpture, more instinct than intent.

The result is Obsolescence, a record born out of detours, made for personal delight, and proof that side products can be main courses if you let them.

Making their club debuts are Cara Carpaccio, fresh off her cosmic Im Weltraum EP and Morphena, who brings her new wave flair from the label’s latest Swallow sampler. Closing out the night Gerd Janson and longtime DJ partner Thomas Hammann, with a B2B that goes way back to their nineties Robert Johnson days.

Out today, Krystal Klear’s Pancake EP here he returns to Running Back with another batch of purpose-built dance floor tracks. The name? Personal. It means something, but that bit stays off the press sheet.

Written during a particularly charged stretch of inspiration, these tracks aim to soundtrack every hour of the night: from the hopeful haze of doors open to the bitter-sweet buzz of lights on. Crafted as quiet tributes to nights out and DJ booths in Germany, Scotland, and London, places where sweat meets sub, and the USB never quite ejects. The formula? Unchanged and undefeated: heavy drums, melodic inflections, more ARPs than strictly necessary, and something emo stirred in for good measure.

Dance music for dancers. Or at least for the idea of them.

Marcel Dettmann, a cornerstone of Berlin’s techno scene and long-time Berghain resident, brings his decades of dancefloor experience to Running Back’s Mastermix series with a deeply personal and retrospective selection. Known for his genre-spanning roots in post-punk, industrial, and new wave, Dettmann raids his private archive to unveil long-treasured edits, many heard only in his DJ sets until now. Presented as a continuous mix, 3LP gatefold, and limited cassette, the compilation moves through precision-crafted reinterpretations of tracks by Nitzer Ebb, Junior Boys, Tocotronic, and more, bridging EBM, proto-electro, minimal techno, and beyond. With contributions from close collaborators like Ryan Elliott and subtle reworkings of underground gems, this Mastermix is both a tribute to Dettmann’s legacy and a gift to the next generation of dancers and diggers.

Once upon a car park.

In the mid-90s, DJ Steve and Luca Lozano bonded over Mobb Deep, Droors, and the finer points of frontside flips. Soundtracked by skate videos and boombox freestyles, those formative years were more about asphalt than machines.

Time moved on. Steve found his way to stages from Sheffield to Sonar as half of an electro duo; Luca chased underground frequencies from London to Berlin. Life zig-zagged. Contact faded.
Fast forward a couple of decades and a random reconnection just before lockdown sparked version 2.0 of their friendship—and a new chapter of collaboration. What started as nostalgia turned into studio marathons and shared sonic visions. The result: Closed Circuit.

This is the sound of two old friends channeling 20-year loops—where electro meets B-boy attitude, house nods to early Warp, and vocoders clash with vintage drum machines. Think sun-bleached jeans, fuzzed-out tape hiss, and that pre-internet rush of discovery.

To top it off, Running Back’s own Roman Flügel contributes a sharp remix flip, and the sleeve features archival photos taken by Lozano during his early London days (2002–2005)—moments frozen in grain and sweat from some of the city’s first DIY parties.
