Our apologies for the inordinate delay in getting Park Ranger 3 to you.

We had a catastrophic computer crash affecting all three of our main computers in the Summer when Park Ranger was first at repro and lost a considerable number of files, programs and even the fonts used for the magazines. We've since recompiled Park Ranger 3 but now have all three of our titles ready for print at the same time (Park Ranger, Technical Rescue & ArbClimber).

We need to get back to our original staggered production so, because Technical Rescue magazine and ArbClimber magazine are not too overdue we have taken the decision to proceed with them first so that Park Ranger magazine is the only one of the three to be unduly late. However, we this digital version of Park Ranger is available free of charge and for hardcopy subscribers the printed magazine will also be sent free of charge when it is printed shortly after the other two titles have been produced. Your subscriptions will be reset to expire after the addition of an extra edition of Park Ranger magazine.

We look forward to getting back to normal in 2014 ('back to normal' means that we're still always late but not this late!)

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Have a great Christmas/Holidays and Happy New Year - we can at least be early with something.

Cheers
Ade Scott [Managing Editor] & Lee Lang [Editor]

EVEN LATER THAN USUAL...........

Our sincere apologies for the tardiness of Park Ranger magazine. Issue 3 is currently complete and at repro but even for us this is unusually late. In fact all three of our magazines are late because we unfortunately experienced a perfect storm of circumstances that conspired to make us even later than we normally are; Aside from losing PRm's editor and webmaster for a while helping battle the Yosemite fires I managed to crash both of our main computers trying to download pictures from a mobile phone. When it didn't work on the main computer I stupidly tried it on the backup! Unbeknown to us at the time our repro computer over 100 miles away was also busy being infected by whatever it is we did and we had to have all three computers reconfigured losing a ton of files and programs. We had to repurchase some programs and the last articles to go into Park Ranger had to be re-written with all three magazines having to start reprographics (setting up for print) all over again. We've caught up with just about everything but now have all three magazines ready to go at the same time.

So we have had to reset our schedules for the three magazines. The digital version of Park Ranger 3 will now be sent out while we get Technical Rescue and Arb Climber magazines printed. The hardcopy version of Park Ranger magazine will be sent to you after these two have gone out so that only one of our three titles is late, however, it will be FREE of CHARGE. Subscribers will have an extra issue added to their subscription.

Once again, our apologies for the hiccup but we may now have beaten technology into submission and hope that 2014 runs a little smoother than this year!

It is now spring and with the warmer weather, hypothermia is the last issue on most people's minds. However, hypothermia is a life-threatening condition and is still prevalent in the spring when people go out unprepared. So how do you prevent and treat it?

Join hypothermia expert, Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht, as you learn how to recognize the signs of hypothermia and discover treatment techniques to save your life or that of a loved one. This jam packed 60 minute session will include a Q&A.

The webinar is free and open to the public.

Moderator: Ayako Ohno, Product Manager, Blizzard, a PerSys Company

Ayako Ohno is the Product Manager and lead blogger for Blizzard, a hypothermia prevention and care brand, where she leads new business development initiatives for North American civilian markets.

Speaker: Gordon Giesbrecht, Ph.D. Professor of Thermophysiology & Associate Dean in Kinesiology and Recreation Management, University of Manitoba

Dr. Giesbrecht studies human responses to exercise/work in extreme environments. He has conducted hundreds of cold-water immersion studies that have provided life-saving information about physiology and pre-hospital care for human hypothermia. He has also conducted over 100 vehicle submersions with people in them, to study survival and exit strategies in sinking vehicles. He has over 100 publications, including a book about hypothermia and human thermoregulation.

Dr. Giesbrecht has been featured on several television documentaries, including "The Cold Embrace” on CTV, the Discovery Channel, and “Self-Experimenters," which aired on CBC's, “The Nature of Things”.
