I’ll never forget the moment I stepped onto my sailboat for the first time, knowing this would be home. No mortgage. No front lawn. No white picket fence. Just the gentle creak of dock lines, the rhythm of the tide, and the promise of a different kind of life.

Choosing to live on a boat—and in a van—hasn’t always been easy. There are trade-offs: smaller spaces, fewer conveniences, a level of unpredictability most people would never sign up for. But what I gained? A sense of freedom and presence I never found in a “normal” life. I wake up to sunrises over the water. I fall asleep to the wind in the rigging. My backyard changes with the seasons—and so do I.

This lifestyle isn’t about escape. It’s about alignment. It’s about deciding what really matters and building a life around that. And honestly? It’s the best decision I’ve ever made.

Yesterday it was jellyfish, today beware of the crocs. They normally live inland in freshwater areas but it appears the warm weather has attracted them to the coast.
