In the heart of a city, where the noise of bustling streets and towering skyscrapers often drowns out the quieter struggles of its residents, there is a story of transformation that shines brightly. It's a story of resilience, hope, and the powerful impact of community support. This is the story of James, a young boy who, through sheer determination and the help of the Our Daily Rest Shelter program, overcame the odds to build a new life for himself. James’s journey began in a place many would rather ignore—the streets. At just 19 years old, James found himself homeless, navigating a world that seemed indifferent to his plight. The harsh reality of living without a stable home was compounded by the challenges of finding employment and securing basic necessities. Yet, despite these obstacles, James’s spirit remained unbroken.

Dear Family, Friends, and Colleagues,

The Oconee Lightning Track Club has worked SO hard! This year we had a record number of athletes join our team AND qualify to move on to REGIONALS for USATF in Georgia July 4-7th. We are in our 3rd year and we took on every athlete that came to practice and our team tripled in size.

We also have three single moms with athletes on our team and that involves helping with transportation and covering costs for special circumstances so that every athlete has the same opportunity to be great!

I started this team three years ago after the Seneca Blazers dissolved post COVID due to the original coach experience late stage cancer. He is now healed - hallelujah! but the families that were forever impacted by USATF really wanted to have a county wide track team again. So, I said YES!

I knew years ago I was assigned to ministry to youth, but I had no idea that I would be 47 with a track team. These athletes are my heart and joy. Every single one of them have impacted my family and it is truly incredible that I get to do this for our community. I have all types of athletes on this team and no one is ever turned away. We welcome all athletes and this team of parents and athletes are truly a picture of Heaven on Earth.

The first two years, Unsworth Marketing Group and Best Services of Oconee covered all of the costs totaling over $5,000.00. This year, we grew fast out of the gate in February averaging 60+ athletes for conditioning. We started fundraising and received 5 business sponsors and held a BBQ. We currently have a deficit of $800+ to cover Regional entry fees due by July 1.

Can you prayerfully consider donating to cover our entry fees which are $1,172.00. We also have 8 volunteer coaches that give their time 5 days a week and weekends to support these athletes. We try to cover some of their travel / gas and lodging as well.
